Someone stole some of my chicks!! (update page 2)

ummm, good question. I know if you search snake trap on here , there is one. I almost fainted when i saw the picture. I know it involves layers of mesh and TOTALLY works.

How's the best way to tell if you don't ever see a snake??? Can they be trapped?

snakes dont unplug cords

But a big one could have slide over it and the weight unplugged it???? I know, it's out there but at this point????????/ Grasping for anything,LOL

if it was THAT big it probably wouldn't fit through 1" chicken wire......

I mean, I don't think a human foot would have unplugged my cord so we would be talking Annaconda if the snake managed to unplug it

It's never randomly come unplugged before anyways, and I put those cords through h-e-double hocky sticks. (Burned one, mowed over one, leave them out in all kinds of weather, sun/UV all summer long, etc.)

snakes get in all kinds of ways. I said, grasping for straws didn't I? LOL

And you would be surprised what snakes can do! OK, so lets guess something else?

No feathers, no carcass, no blood, no rips in wire, no holes dug near tractor???

IDK, has to be theft then~

Get a camera?????

I'm going to Wal-Mart tonight - hope they have one in stock.

Honestly though, if it was just kids who wanted a few (taking 3 out of 7 seems a bit....odd) they might not even bother to come back for the rest of them.

However, game cameras are VERY handy for figuring out predator problems so I'm sure it's gonna be worth it anyway

I took the cat to my in-law's land, my FIL said he would take it for their mouse problem. I really DON'T think it was a cat, but this one was pretty scared of people and snooping around my coop so I really don't need him around anyway. (well, an empty tuna can for bait - with that scent what cat would resist?? lol)

it could have been one person and grabbing 3 would seem right. I don't think they would come with a box, LOL. They grabbed and ran. Those camera's are great! They will come in handy and we want pic's!

That wouldn't keep them from beginning now. Especially if they've got kittens they're hunting for, they could come grab chicks and bring them back to the kittens to eat without taking time to play with their food in the pen.

I've lost chicks to feral cats and never saw much, if any, evidence.

i'd say it is a 2 legged theif getting them. if you just lost 3 chicks in one swoop, a cat couldn't have done it. not unless it had a strategy of killing a few and somehow carrying off many carcasses at once.

if it was a neighbor that could be why your dog didn't start barking. it may have known the person that was running through the property.

Maybe it was........

THIS GUY! We finally solved the mystery of who was unplugging our light. BTW, he is standing inside a wire hanging feeder four feet up the wall. The good news is he didn't steal any chickens!

Well, Dusti barks at the neighbors if they do anything other than come and go in their driveway, but she was inside and in her crate. Yes she has barked at things on the porch before, but she could have been sleeping deeply I guess.

My sister in law who drove by still says she saw someone in my back yard, inside the fence, the day the chicks disappeared and that they were wearing a white shirt with red print on it. One of the neighbo's frequent visitors was wearing a shirt that fit the bill the same day, but I didn't see them with any chicks or have reason to question them at the time (hadn't talked to SIL then). Coincidence? I doubt it.
