Something Fishy - a thread for fish owners

I saw something that appears to be scale on the outside bottom of my 55. Could this be an early warning that it’s leaking? Sorry this isn’t the best picture.

I have kept fish several times in the past but none at the moment. Fish tend to die after just a couple of months at my house.

We were just given a tank today! I think it's 29 or 30 gallons. With it, we got a pleco and a whole colony of guppies. What good timing for this thread to pop up!! It needs a good scrubbing and I want to do some updates with more natural looking plants and such. I kind of feel like the pleco might be too big for this tank. He's not huge, but it seems a little cramped for him I've had tanks before as a kid, with angelfish, Cory cats, and tetras, but it's been so long, I feel like I'm brand new at this.

I used to be the same way. I ended up simply just talking to the local fish store owners, small timers, and found that somehow almost magically I was able to keep them alive! I have even successfully treated a few. Sadly not nearly as many as have come down with stuff, but it still feels nice.
Do you have any local fish store people you can turn to?

hello! I have three tanks currently, one houses a school of zebra fish, the other one is a guppy breeding tank and has some itty bitty ghost shrimp, the third is my fry tank . I’m currently working on fixing up my dads fish tank which I have been bugging him to clean but I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands as it is absolutely disgusting.

In defense of your dad I had a gold fish for around 18 years and it's tank glass would get so green you could not see into it. Of course nothing else could survive in the tank but Goldie but I like to think he lived a long life in his green bubble. I admit I was negligent and at one point I only fed him and added water when the level dropped. Lord only knows how much longer he might have lived if I was more diligent.

I have a pond on my property and it has game fish in it. Bass, Brim, Sunfish, minnows, tadpoles, salamanders, frogs an occasional snake, two snapping turtles and a few mud turtles. Year ago a one eyed cat fish but I dont know if its still there or not. We feed them floating fish pellets and its fun to see them them eat. I'd like to get some sterile tilapia and some algae eaters one day to help out the ecosystem. I would also like to add sterile koi but I think the game fish would eat them. Maybe I can get loving spouse on the same page and construct a separate koi pond one day.

We do have well water so maybe it was the water. I thought he should be in the book of world records but hubby informed me there was one that lived 40 something years! Now that's amazing to me! I actually cried when Goldie died. I've had cats and dogs pass that I was sad but did not cry but when the fish died it was just something so sad to see his empty green tank sitting there.
