Something Fishy - a thread for fish owners

Can we talk filters? What do you like, what do you hate? Our tank came with a Penguin BioWheel which seemed really nice, but those dang bio wheels need to be fussed with all the time to keep them spinning. Not the end of the world, but I know there are other options out there and wondering what everyone loves😊

Im really loving my sponge filters run by powerheads. Super quiet, minimal maintenance, plenty of filtration and bio film. Once a month or so take it out and squish it clean in a bucket of tank water, done 🥰

Sorry I haven't kept up with this thread too well. Life's been crazy busy and just one thing after another. The most recent is a heater malfunction in my 75 gallon :hit
I have now learned of a heat controller. I seriously never heard of these before. I have since bought one for each tank. At $30 a piece it’s not cheap, but a small price to pay to not come home to boiled fish.
I do have one survivor - the bichir 🥰
Scared the absolute CRAP out of hubs :gig
He's such a good fishy! He’s hanging out in the angels grow out tank.

In summary: please look into some form of controller/thermostat for your tanks with heaters. Chillers, too, I’m sure. It will be worth it.
Of course, don’t blindly rely on it. You still need to make sure that its working properly. Mine aren't here yet so I cant help you with that.

Ah yes, I can get my fish with my chicken!

Although I've kept many fish a few stand out in memory for their personality and or longevity:

A long lived Red Tailed Black Shark
Another long lived Mono Argentus
A long lived African Convict Cichlid
Several Dwarf South American Keyhole and Golden Cervicep Cichlids
A Fantail Beta
Chinese Algae Eater
A Pleco

Edit: Oh and a little Oscar
