i keep a live trap baited with sardines at the edge of the woods near my house. anything that comes along for a midnight snack goes for the sardines. possums i kill coons get a different zip code, unpopulated area.

Don't relocate the coon. They are rabies vectors and should not be relocated. In some states (such as North Carolina) it is illegal to relocate them.It offers a hefty fine, if caught.

Sometimes you can talk animal control to take the trapped coons off your hands and bring your trap back empty. Tell them you were trying to trap feral cats. In my area you must have a wildlife trappers permit to trap coons.
