Something got our rooster today...daughter is distraught...

Sounds like a dog...most other predators would have eaten at least part of him.

I have several roosters to protect my hens and they do a great job. Keep watch and see what comes around and either shoot it or find out who owns it and take action or soon you will have no chickens. Dogs can wipe out an entire flock in no time. It appears your roo died protecting his flock. He was a good one.

No dogs better come around our place for a long while whilst I am in this mood - it would get a beating like it never had before if I got hold of it. I am still upset about that - my daughters distraught cries and her scream of 'its not fair!' is still ringing in my ears....
Well, I think I am going to get another rooster for the hens as it just makes for a good flock - I also enjoy the early morning crows.

I believe it was a dog also. Especially because it was not eaten. Dogs kill for sport. I'm sorry about your loss. Hope you catch it on camera.
