Hello,
I am hatching eggs. They were shipped to me and I have a feeling something was wrong because the shipping was delayed and they shipped when it was colder. Not to mention if something says fragile it’s not always handled as such.

I made a post a while ago, about how strange the air sacs are. And folks said it was okay. So I waited for further development but now it’s worse.

What is going on and are the eggs even viable? This one photo shows what a lot of them look like with variations. This one is the most dramatic but something is up.

This is an edit: Just to say this is day 16.

It’s called saddled air cells and very common with shipped eggs. I have had ducklings hatch just fine out of eggs with very viable saddled air cells, but sometimes they don’t make it. It’s a wait and see game at this point not much you can do.

Saddled egg! Due to rough handling during shipping. Not anything you can do about it. If the egg has a variable chicken inside it may or may not hatch. My luck with saddled eggs has been very poor.

Thank you for the heads up. It’s really spooky. I’ve never had that before. Is the viability the same as a regular egg or is it less viable?

Okay, some air sacs are in the shape of a heart. I’m guessing this is the same thing? The one shown is the most dramatic.

I would say less, but not completely hopeless. I had to assist several of my saddled air cell hatches, but they ended up fine.

Alright, well here is to hoping!!

I have some air pockets that are shaped like hearts. I’m guessing this is the same thing?

I never had a saddled egg hatch! I raise pheasants and their eggs do not ship well at all. They developed but none ever hatched. That's my experience with saddled eggs.
