Chirping
Hi all,
I'll try to get a video up as soon as my phone is charged because this behavior is really difficult to describe, but here it goes: my duckling, Mac, is a Muscovy duck and we're not sure how old he is but he's just now getting in some feathers. When we got him, he had something funky with his eye and we had no idea what it was, but he stopped being bothered by it once we got him in the pond and had him swimming regularly (figured he got out whatever was in there).
Today, my roommate says that he made a weird noise and when she went outside to check on him (he had been left in the pond with our mother duck and 6 ducklings. unrelated), and his eyes looked really sunken and goopy and he had a little bit of blood on the side of his mouth. She cleaned him up and got some ointment on his eyes just in case but he has not stopped quietly chirping (almost like a muted chirp. very very quiet), chewing, and just generally moving his mouth and walking around. Literally, his mouth has NOT stopped moving... we thought something was stuck in his mouth but after inspecting him very closely, there's nothing in his mouth or obstructing his throat (unless it's way further down) and no wounds or even any irritation at all.
He's not underweight at all, he's still eating and drinking and swimming, but he walks a little funny, and this is all very sudden.
So again, to describe what he's doing is he's making a lot of very quiet noises and appears to be constantly chewing food, even when there's nothing in his mouth. I'll try and get a video up asap but unless there's a disease or injury that caused this and we just can't see it, I'm concerned that it might be neurological.
