This afternoon while I was feeding my chickens some treats, I noticed one of my roosters wouldn't come and eat. He just sat on a roost pole, oblivious to what the other chickens were doing. Here's what I found:

That gunk is just on his right eye. It also seems kind of swollen. My sister and I think it might be an eye infection, but we aren't sure. This is the first time anything like this has happen to me or my flock, so any help diagnosing what it is or how to get that crud out of his eye would be much appreciated. I'm really worried about him...

Try some VetRX. You can get it from feed stores and it is normally under $10 for a bottle and lasts a long time. Put a few drops in each nostril and it will help him breathe a little easier. If he doesn't improve, you may want to put him on antibiotics.

I would separate him if possible in cause it is contagious.

I just looked that up and I have a suspicion that might be what he has. Is there any way I could save his eye from being destroyed if that is what he has?

I just got back from checking him and I notice that he was able to actually throw a gob of that gunk out of his eye from shaking his head.
My dad said it might be a speck of wood (Sawdust most likely) in his eye as he was walking around where my dad was working yesterday (he likes watching powersaw blades whirling (He's a bit weird like that). We'll try to flush the rest of it out in a little bit.

Thanks for all your help everyone!
