oh, don't get me started, now I'll be watching all of the joe cocker videos with Leon Russell. and "singing" all the Janis songs I know. Oh lord won't you buy me a mercedes benz?
I didn't know "one" was a Three Dog Night song. They had a big hit with that song that starts "Jeremiah was a bullfrog", the rest of which escapes me at the moment.
We have a very well-known singer here called John Farnham, he started out as "Johnny" and had pop song hits one of which was "one". He's still performing (I think, he's like Nellie Melba, keeps "retiring" and then popping back up)
Here's another song from "back then" that I like, from one of our Australian bands Axiom. Brian Cadd later had solo hits, and Glenn Shorrock ended up in "The little river band" which had some successful records in the US
Not sure exactly when, but we had all of the american and british hits on the radio and then they brought in a rule that there had to be a certain amount of Australian content, so local bands got the airplay to make them successful because people got to hear them and not just all the overseas people
i think that was a "golden era" of good bands and songs, both overseas and here. What happened?
