SOOOO Got RIPPED off!

Several people think that's how you are supposed to store hatching eggs. I've seen sellers display them like that very often in this area. One guy told me he turns them from pointy-side down to pointy-side up, that's how he rotates them during collection. So I bet he has some pretty crummy hatches.

Is there any reason or logical thinking behind it? It's kind of like dry incubation vs normal incubation?
Dry works better for me but others it doesnt. Every side has a story and i wonder what the reasoning would be.

Oh no what was worse was on the top he wronte even and on the bottom he wrote Odd..... wth?
OH and I checked Ebay he has two listings for more eggs up. I cant figure out how to post followup feedback GRR

Maybe he was reselling the eggs and that's how he rotates his according to even and odd days???!?

Hey, don't give up!

I ordered from RefRoofFarms in GA on Ebay, they also frequent on here, man those eggs were packed like Fort Knox. Each eggs individually wrapped in bubble wrap, right way up in the carton, egg box was taped and wrapped in a blue cloth type material then the shipping box was a snug but not tight fit with lots of packing chips around that. Then the out side of the box was double taped, marked on all sides that they were hatching eggs and fragile. I have 10 out of 12 beautiful 2 week old Buff Orpington chicks....

So, try them...... or..........

Get to know people on your state page, see if anyone has what you want and meet up at a show or similar. I did that with HenThymes and also have some beautiful Lavender Orpington chicks too.....

or..... I could let you have some Barred Rocks!

Yeah its really fustrating to try and post follow up feedback! You have to go to your ebay page where it shows all the feedback you've left for others.. then somewhere around there is the link to post follow-up.. or it might be after you click on the feedback and see it on the sellers page... ummm.. in either case the link is down the bottom left, between two other links. Sorry, but I hope that helps some!

I haven't asked because I didnt want to sound dumb LOL. Whats an EE? I had thought for a while that they were just a mixed chicken..
The Ft Myers lady is only 20 mins away from me so I definitely want to know what these are!

I do. My sister raises them. She lives in Tennessee so they would have to be shipped, though.
PM me if you are interested and I'll contact her.

I'm sorry you feel as if this guy ripped you off.. I'm not saying you didn't but i'm also not saying you did either... I'm going to play devils advocate here... Ok.. Here we go...

#1) Seller REFUSED to let you pick them up... I would have seen this as a red flag.. Of course, this is also based on everything else you have told us so i will let that one go for the moment.. Maybe the seller was going out of town, his yard was messy, he has a HUGE fear of someone coming back to his place and stealing his bird.. There could be a million reasons for this... The last one is VERY possible... It wouldn't be the first time it has happened to someone..

#2) Seller sent eggs in large flat rate box... Well, I will ONLY send eggs to people in the large flat rate boxes.. It cost $14 and some change and gives me plenty of room to try to prevent the eggs from moving too much.. I've sent eggs to many people and have never once had a complaint about using these boxes... A medium box is good for 6 eggs or less but I have always sent out at least a dozen... Using these boxes, you can order a bunch from the post office and learn the best way to ship the eggs without them getting broken and continue using the same method.

#3) Seller did not mark the box.... I've STOPPED marking the box "FRAGILE!!!" or "HATCHING EGGS" and I've specifically asked those sending me eggs to NOT mark the box.. Marking the box in this way is the postal workers "tip" to play football with the package... My husband used to work for a shipping company many years ago and even he used to tell me that "FRAGILE" or (frah-gee-lay) is French for "football"...

#4) Seller put eggs upside down... Ummm... ok... I don't have an explanation or argument for this one...

#5) Seller did not pack them well enough... Eggs should not be able to move much if at all during shipping... Agreed, this was not the best way to package them... However, the eggs did get to you in one piece, and maybe the seller was thinking they wouldn't move much due to the fact that they were not going very far?? A little more care should have been taken but I've gotten eggs that were packed MUCH better than that, that were smashed...

#6) You had detached air cells... I agree with another poster that this is most likely due to packing them upside down, not packaging... I have gotten eggs with detached air cells and I will say, if put in the incubator inside an egg carton or turner (to keep the air cell up), they can hatch... I've done it.. I do not throw detached air cells out!

#6) Eggs were mottled... Although these are not the best eggs to send to someone, as with detached air cells, these can hatch also.. Some mottling is worse than others but they all have a chance... The seller should have taken better care to not send these out....

#7) If your eggs were only on day 3 or 4, WHY would you cull them?!?! The BEST time to see if an embryo is growing or not is between day 7 and 10.. The sooner you candle, the more likely you are to throw away a GOOD egg! Especially if there is some mottling, I want until at LEAST day 8 to do anything with it.... Please please please... In the future, wait to throw the eggs out... A few more days will not cause an egg to explode as long as it wasn't bad when you put it in the bator...

#8) You saw a spot in the egg... If it was a line, it may or may not have been a blood ring... I've honestly had some that looked as if it had a blood ring but a few days later I realized it was just large vein since I could see the chick had grown! Unless you are absolutely SURE the egg is bad, mark it with a "?" or something, put it back in the bator and give it a few days... Again, a few days will not hurt anything and may save a chick from being unnecessarily culled... If it was just a spot, it could have been a meat spot, blood spot or EYE!

Ok... I think I covered everything... Again, not saying you did or did not get ripped off... I've been buying, selling and hatching eggs for 2 years but i am definitely no "eggs"pert... I will say that I have learned a LOT from this site and have gotten GREAT advice and just thought I would help pass some of it on...

Most every egg seller never deserves to recieve a negative feedback. Its not their fault if an egg gets damaged somehow, or doesen't hatch. That being said, the buyer does deserve to receive eggs that were packed to the best of the sellers ability. Just the fact that the eggs were upsidedown indicates they were not packed to the best of the sellers ability, and not something any buyer should have to recieve. So really a negative feedback should be posted to warn others.
But I know it is unfair when good sellers recieve a bad feedback.

I agree with just about everything Goddess said. Porous eggs can produce perfectly healthy chicks and 3 or 4 days is FAR too early to decide to remove eggs from the bator. I always pencil a question mark on any that I feel dubious about and leave them in to see what happens. My last hatch, two that I had marked as 'perfect looking' failed to hatch and two with question marks hatched out fine. Detached aircells are something you're going to get with just about every batch of shipped eggs, no matter how well packed. I know this cause I just sent a dozen eggs that were ridiculously well packed (bubble wrap and straw cushioning) to someone just a hundred and fifty miles or so from me, and on arrival most of them had detached air cells. Eggs with detached aircells can hatch fine too. I don't remove any eggs ffrom my bator before day 7-10, and only then if they are completely clear, If I see ANYTHING at all in there, I leave them in. I'd only remove an egg I thought was bad if it was actually weeping or stinking...

I'm not saying you did or didn't get ripped off either, but speaking as an eBay seller, if I sold a dozen eggs to someone and they all arrived intact, then I got bad feedback because on candling on day 3, the buyer decided they were no good and removed them from the bator, well, I'd feel really annoyed that the buyer wasn't being fair. Just saying...
