grocery stores and petco's work as well I resort to this to get my egg fix every now and then I just met a really nice breeder from a neighboring city doing just this

Yep. I buy eggs from a BYCer regularly, and we meet at a local Starbuck's. I drove 40 minutes once to buy eggs from a lady out of town, and we met at her local Starbuck's. As others have stated, it's always good to meet your buyers/sellers in public places like that.

I know some people want to see where/how the birds are raised, and I guess maybe people who insist upon it will not buy from me because I live in a scary neighborhood and will not bring strangers to my house. Our brooder is in the livingroom, and I'm not bringing people inside to see where/how the chicks are raised. They're raised well. I'll show pics of the brooders, etc., but buyers aren't coming into my house.

I guess if I lived in a different type of community, I would feel differently. I guess the bottom line is, each of us has to decide based on the customers we sell to and the areas we live in.

Here in the UK, a lot of people have had their prize birds stolen and some people would never let buyers collect birds. For health and quarantine reasons as well as security. I read again and again of people having their best birds stolen the week after they've won prizes for them at a big show. Thieves go to shows and chat to breeders, get business cards, pretend they want to buy birds, then sneak round one night and steal them! I see on a lot of eBay adverts a note saying that the address the seller has on file with eBay is NOT the location where the birds are kept. If I had very rare or valuable birds, I'd probably do my best to conceal my location too! Maybe the seller has had birds stolen before...

Wow! I've heard in the UK beehives get stolen too. Now just how do they manage that?

Well, in that case why did the OP leave positive feedback on opening the package then? S/he seems to have originally been happy enough that all the eggs were intact, and only got annoyed on candling on "day 3 or 4", when s/he decided that half the eggs were infertile and most of the others were too porous to hatch...

If a buyer feels that the eggs were packed badly or are of poor quality, surely the thing to do is to contact the seller before setting the eggs, and not to leave positive feedback, set the eggs, then chuck them after just three days of incubation? That's a bit like buying clothes and cutting out the labels before trying them on, then complaining when you later find out that they don't fit properly...

I'm not disagreeing with you btw. I do agree that the seller's job is to pack healthy eggs correctly.

I respect all that you have said, and yes there are two sides to everything. However, no i was unhappy with what I saw but many of the eggs I had difficulty it telling whether the cells were detached upon arrival. However, my annoyance is even more so with the fact that the several attempts I have made to contact the man have FAILED. I am fully aware that detached cells can still be hatchable, however in this case the ones I removed were not. They were so bad off it seemed as if they were LITERALLY shaken. As I said earlier in a post, much like a maraca. The egg I spoke of with the spot, was not a blood ring. It was a bacterial spot. I will NOT leave an egg that is obviously bad in my incubator. I will not run any chances on ruining any of my other eggs. As I said. I checked the eggs, I cracked a couple open even (which I didnt mention) and they were not even fertile.

Someone mentioned offering a public place, I did that. He did not want to meet up or allow any sort of pick up. Yes, most would immediately say red flag, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he doesnt have a vehicle or is unable to meet for a good reason. However, like I said. Lesson Learned. No more non-reputable sellers will be looked at by me at all.

Thanks to all offering up some sales here. I may come back and contact a few of you. In the mean time, I found a great seller who has some gorgeous EE bantys and purchased a dozen from him.

On another note: Know that I am not new at incubating or buying shipped eggs. I have had terrible hatches and fantastic ones. The fact of the matter is this guy is KNOWINGLY selling eggs that arent any good. If he werent then why wont he contact me back about the eggs? I dont know what his situation is but I know he has two more egg listings on Ebay now and I fear someone else may fall victim to his stupidity. I am a lost cause or rather my purchase was, but I do not want someone else to end up screwed over too.

Actually it is very easy ~ at night all the bees are inside, you just block the entrance hole and pick up the whole hive. It is very heavy though so you best not drop it or you might regret it. Beekeepers move hives at night frequently.
