Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new chicken keeper and have just lost a hen to sour crop. She went off colour three days ago. I had given a warm bath in the hope that this would ease a potentially stuck soft shell egg. And then yesterday I gave her food and water via syringe. Then she laid what looked like a lash.
Today was the first day that I could tell she had a crop issue and the first when there was a nasty smell from her beak.
I massaged her crop and she was sick a lot but then died shortly afterwards. I didn't turn her upside down, having read that this can be fatal, but fear it may have been as a result of my inducing her vomit which caused her death.
Did I massage her too long perhaps?
Is it possible for the lungs to block if they're upright?
After she vomited, she was gasping for air and stretching her neck out. Does this suggest suffocation?
I feel terrible about it.
