gardener i agree with bogtown sour crop makes the crop fill up with a liquid feel like a big water balloon. if you only feel a little food in there id say its probly not sour crop. could be worms or mites. check between feathers at base for any signs of mites or their eggs and check poop for worms.preening could be from itchyness and comb as bogtown said mites good luck xx

One other thing Gardener too is to maybe check her abdomen for a firmness to see if she's egg bound and that is messing up her excreting poop properly. If all those things are checking out maybe start a thread for yourself to see if there's more input on her, putting down the things you have checked and a picture can speak a thousand words for some of these folks on here. Pretty smart people on BYC.

weird thing is thou, the copper sulphate they sent says hoof dip on it!for use in foot bath!! not sure its pure! says 98% copper sulphate but no other ingredients listed. im wary of it. might go all natural route with the ginger mix thing.

I wonder if the other 2% is a cleanser of some sort. ugh. how frustrating to think you have a med and then not appropriate. I guess I've dabbled into that problem a bit myself. Such a pain shopping for stuff.

I would try the grated fresh ginger for her though!

Give that a go. Can't hurt and might even make her feel good too.

Gardener, another thought that came to my mind is does she have Vent Gleet? That is another sort of yeast infection that causes the bottom to get messy with white stuff around the vent.
Hope you can figure out what is going on!

HELP! I've read all about sour crop on this forum and I'm still a little unsure if this is the problem with our hen. She was doing great but quite suddenly has gone down hill. Very lethargic, with a messy vent and off her food. She's sat there preening herself but not much else, I can feel a small amount of food in her crop but not much, nowhere near the size of a golf ball or grapefruit! Her wattle has lost it's deep red colour too and is more pinky. It's the wife's favourite too so any help would be much appreciated, thanks

i did read that antibiotics can reduce their appitite so maybe watch to make sure thats not happening. whats your probiotic called? wanted to get some, i have electrolites but thats different isnt it? or is it?!

This is a combination of electrolytes and probiotics I got and guess what? it has copper sulfate in it. One Stop Shop! lol Not sure if the concentration of Copper Sulphate is enough for your problem however...probably just more at "prevention" levels. It's Merrick's Blue Ribbon Poultry Electrolyte and Probiotics all in one happy slurry.

thanks bogtown wow that stuffs great! think i might go for the garlic thou as it will be ongoing prevention. i read electrolites should only be given on the short term so id use that if i had it then do natural but as i dont i think ill try to get a probiotic.
her crop felt pretty small this morning still not empty but better than its been for a while.i was up all night ill and got to them to let them out about 8:00 so maybe it had longer to empty and that why. she looks bright and energetic ate well and slept with girls last night still havnt seen her poop! but she must be as loads under roost some runny some normal.would just like to see her go so i know if she still has the runs. will keep eye on her. crop bras fab! seems to be doing a good job
not using that copper sulphate as you say could be mixed with some sort of cleanser!! no one answered my thread about it so i guess no one know either.
