See, this is why I don't even want to get started on incubating eggs. I know I would get obsessed. My eldest daughter has begged for an incubator, even the tiny ones that only hold 3 or 4 eggs. She is in 2nd grade and I would love to have one so her classroom could do a little science project and see some eggs hatch, but I don't think DH would be pleased to spend quite that much money for a classroom project.

Juliette, I love love love your pictures! I have to giggle at the bantams though- they look like wind-up toys to me. When the little Sebrights and BB Reds we saw at the fair would crow, I would just laugh because it was sooo tiny and cute.

I have four little Seramas from Juliette and they are adorable! They even lay adorable eggs. Very friendly too.

My hens have started laying again. Woo hoo! I got 19 eggs yesterday. I have a lot of pullets that are 24-26 weeks old so I wasn't sure if they would start now or later on in the Spring. I had one EE lay her first egg yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't the color I wanted but it was huge! The biggest first egg I've seen yet. Took up my whole palm. I know that hurt!

I have 6 Araucana eggs in the incubator. The first just hatched. Hoping the rest do! It's been kind of nice doing a hatch over the holidays. I was so busy that I forgot about them most of the time! After reading about all this ordering, I may have to go check out the hatcheries again. I usually hatch my own eggs if I'm going for quality, but it's really nice to be able to get just girls!

Well I checked the weather for 10 days ahead and it looks like no snow for the weekend. Monday its suppose to be icy with freezing rain.
If its freezing rain wouldnt it be sleet??? Oh well as long as we dont lose power i will be ok. I am still flipping eggs my honey flips when im at work. A auto turner would be nice but at least we are getting to know how its done. E

Juliette- They are adorable!! I have to say. Tiny and CUTE!!!!!

And I just found out last week my cousins husband just gave away his bator. He raised chickens years ago and didn't need it anymore and so he gave it away

He had no idea that I had chickens and would have taken it!

Believe that.....oh well I guess I'll talk about my chickens more just incase I run across another family/friend who has one..lol!!!!


And Lord Help, I'm turning my little storage building into a Little Chicken Coop with a run, for my new chicks that I hope to be getting in spring. Half Coop/Half Storage All Good!!!

I don't think Yancy can have a roo. Neighborhood and all that. It's a shame; other than my feathery demon Lakenvelder, I love my roos.

I think they're calling for snow in the upstate now, aren't they? Blech, do not want.

Poor Yancy! He did not realize what an enabler I am! He can have a roo but why when I have so many? LOL If one of his hens goes broody he only needs to come get eggs from whichever breed he would like here and let his hen hatch and raise them. He has a set number he is planning on getting.

I have a feeling with all of us here for encouragement he will not stop there! Oh, Yancy, we are talking about you.....

Yup, snow in the forecast. The weather service is afraid to say how much we may get since the Christmas snow. I am getting ready though. Trips to Lowes, Walmart and most importantly, the feed store! I have got so many drop cords I am tangled up!

The difference between freezing rain and sleet is that sleet falls as a frozen droplet but freezing rain falls as a liquid and the freezes to the surface. I would rather have sleet than freezing rain. Sleet isn't as bad to stick to trees and power lines. Even the snow we just had made me cringe because it was so wet that the trees were laying over. I just knew the power was going to go out but it only flickered a few times.

Anyone going to the Morganton show Feb 11th? I think I will get up very early and get chores done so we can ride up there. It is only about an hour.......if I drive. If DH drives it will take longer. I do not think I will take anything to sell because they want you to have a card and I only have a few Sizzles and Frizzles for sale anyway.

Ears perking up.......frizzles for sale?....what I did not hear that...must be because I just got in from work and I am so tired I am hearing things...yes I know I heard nothing about frizzles being for sale

Guess if bad weather is heading this way I best get a nap then head to the feed store myself. Eric I will be praying that you don't lose power...but if you do will you let your wife take a pic of you brooding on those eggs? I really do feel for you when we got the snow and mine were in the bator I made sure the generator was up and running...Hubby asked if I was that worried about losing power..ha told him only thing I needed to plug into generator was the bator!

Nadine is such an enabler...thats why I have more eggs coming my way for hatching
