Hi Tricia,
welcome-byc.gif
We have family that lives in Florence and Darlingtion. Are you looking for babies or starter pullets.
Robin
I am thinking starter pullets for our first run. I doubt DH would have much tolerance for failures in the early stages. :))

If silkies can't fly, then why did I come home to ding a rooster on the wrong side of the fence?!?! This booger is persistent I tell ya!! Little does he know he will b in solitary confinement tomorrow...

Mom(patsy29332)says something similar...hers roost several feet off the ground but she does have different levels they work up to get there but they still have to fly some!!

Been trying to catch up. Had a bad week -- lost the one peacock, the other is not looking great but I am treating him the best I can. And also Monday, the Dominique chicks I bought at the show started passing blood(reason to not buy anything but hatching eggs). I put them on sulmet and thought I had caught it but lost both cockerels and one pullet. I have one other pullet not looking great that I forced some sulmet water down last night. She is eating today and drinking water. The person I bought them from at first tried to say I must have put them in a dirty pen but he has since lost a few himself. What a sad thing to deal with. I did do my first postmortem exam on the first cockerel to died and found textbook cocci ~"Eimeria tenella". The person I purchased them from admits he put them on the ground to eat some grass a day or so before the show. They were 4 weeks old at the show. He was a believer that if they were on medicated food they would not get cocci.

Patsy, my Dorking chicks are still doing good and I have gotten them out of the shed where the sick chicks are. They were never with those chicks and I am really glad now of that. I am keeping my fingers crossed they do not get the cocci bug. They are eating great and enjoying the bigger hutch.

I also have my first batch of chicks hatching since my break--they started yesterday and hopefully will finish today. I had 90 eggs to start with and only pulled about 5 or 6 clear ones. I was expecting more to be clear. I do not like to hatch that many chicks at once. What a mass of chicks I had in there this morning.

I am sooo sorry you lost those Doms! I eventually want some and have an eye on a farm close by that has a little veggie market in the summer and has them...they usually sell a few eggs in the market...maybe I can get some hatching eggs there...So glad to hear the Dorking chicks are OK so far! They are really a pretty resilient breed. Just let me know of any problems and we'll figure something out! I think I got you 1+2 but if they change...HAHAHA let me know! Wishing you a great hatch coming up!!! WOW 90!!!

Really looking forward to the beautiful weather today! Had a rough night of sleep since Annaliese was in our bed almost all night. Those darn storms! I'll be so glad when we have the house and she can relax.

I have a customer driving with her 4 children today 3 1/2 hours each way to buy one silkie. People crack me up! Of course, she thinks she's only buying one silkie. How can you just buy one!?

We have been invited to be on the Upstate Farm Tour through CFSA this June. The lady in charge is coming out this afternoon to tour the farm. Not sure what we'll be doing but I guess I'll be talking chicken. We might even be a meal stop. We initially turned her down since it's on June 2-3 and our house is supposed to ready at the end of May. I kind of wanted to focus on moving and not preparing for a bunch of people coming to the farm. But she talked me into it. Has anyone done the Farm Tour (your farm or just going to a farm)? We haven't. I'm curious what all people do at their farms. Cole plans to have a sing-along a few times during the afternoon for the kids. That man loves an opportunity to whip out the guitar and sing.

Enjoy your day!

That is cool!!! Sounds interesting!

DH has agreed for us to have a "chicken experiment". BWAHHHHAHAHa So after being AWOL for a few years I am back and shopping for my first chickens. I know that I would like 4. At least one Buff Orp., some colored egg layers, and some other heritage breed. I am in Florence SC.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Tricia

Yippee!!! and Welcome here...

Getting everything settled and a farm tour? Lady you are going to have one BUSY time! I have wanted to go on a tour, but never have had the opportunity - OK I have never made the time to do it.

I think the sing along is a good idea! Sounds like something kids would enjoy. If you are provided an itinerary for the tour, maybe you can check out websites or other farms to see what they do!

One silkie??!!! Impossible!!!
