South Carolina

To show bird owners, where do you get your Pullorum testing done? And are there any other certificates you need to enter birds in shows?
Here in SC and I think in GA you can get it done on Friday night, if you coop in then or Sat. morning if that is when you decide to arrive. I think it is usually 25 cents per bird. There are also testers popping up everywhere or you can get your entire farm NPIP'd, if you like.

Thank you! So every show offers testing? That's awesome! I may one day get NPIP'd, but I'm still on the fence about that one. The birds would still need to be tested every 3 months, do I have that right?

I was looking at the NPIP thing. It looks like you can take a class at Clemson and get certified as a tester and then you agree to test so many other people and to let them come and test you a few times a year, is that right?

I am pretty sure every show offers testing. I have never heard of one that did not.
Southern Bee Lady and Carolina Chicken Keeper as well as KrisH on here are all certified to test, plus a few others. They took the class at Clemson so know much more about it than I do. My farm is not NPIP nor will I ever allow it to be.
Yes, the birds need to be tested every 3 months if you have them tested at a show. NC is a bit different and requires testing for AI (avian influenza) and requires your entire farm be tested. I suppose I will never show up there if they won't do my birds at the door.

Amy To show in NC you have to have AI done every 6 months. Pullorium testing can be done at shows (I think they still do it at shows...Matt would know). If you are not NPIP in SC it will cost to have AI done. If you are NPIP there is no charge for AI testing.

Amy Any of the testers in SC can do your Pullorium test. I could have went to Columbia and learned how to do AI but decided I didn't really want to. The training was offered to us at one time.
