What is the downside to being NPIP? Aside from the hassle of having someone come inspect you?
One is that after being tested you can never get hatching eggs again from someone who's birds are not tested or you will have to test your whole flock again.

ignorant question: How will hatching eggs pass on diseases? I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to test often, if you were a tester yourself.

Eggs pass on diseases the same as a mother passing on something to her child. If it is blood born then it is taken right in during development of the embryo.

I'm glad y'all talking About this npip cuz I sell eggs on ebay from my doms and wyandottes from time to time. I was thinking of getting npip but I like to get eggs from all over and don't like people coming tomy place all the time or any of that other stuff guess ill stay just like I am. Btw I got chicks hatching they was. Just late 2 so far are peeping YAY!!!! I didn't kill them all

Aimee came back! We woke up to find her standing outside the door to the coop. (For those of you who don't know, we lost a chicken!) My daughter walked very slowly towards her and she startled clucking at her, like "are you going to keep me waiting?" she got hers though, once we let her back in the other hens started pecking at her. We're hoping she can be re-integrated smoothly.

This is great news! I still think the idea of the box and the stick trap would have worked(well in a pinch)!

Lol. We did try the stick in a box last night but ran out of daylight. In the end, although we tempted her with food I think it was a lack of water that brought her in.
