South Carolina

Wow, that's awesome! Did you go to Clemson? Or apply for the packet? This may be a dumb question...but can they buy their own birds? I have a feeling that if DS did the raise a pullet program he wouldn't be able to let her go. He cried for hours when the first of our weak chicks died.

Of course maybe it would be better to just let DD do it.
I use a Hovabator Genesis 1588 w/o hygrometer, but purchased one from Petsmart in the reptile section. I think I would have hatched 6/8, with one DIS and one shrink wrapped at the zip stage, if I hadn't helped the shrink wrapped one. But it was my first hatch so I obviously have lots to learn, just like the kiddos!

I didn't do anything except call the 4H office and they volunteered everything to me. I'm on their email list now, so I find out when new stuff starts. I think with the poultry project that think they get to keep a couple pullets. I wish I had your luck with the incubator. Now that I have a hygrometer, I am seeing that I need to add water every day to keep it in the 40% humidity range, for some reason it dries out really fast. All of my first hatch were DIS.

Is Sophie involved with any clubs like 4H? I'm looking into it for mine, but don't know much about the program. My 5 year old DD also loves the chickens and doesn't get too upset when something bad happens (DS is another story...). I think it would be great for her to learn more about animals.

Prayers being sent on behalf of your niece. St Jude' is wonderful. Best wishes for a great set set of scans in March!

The next few shows are local enough that anyone living close to them can go and see all the beautiful birds. A few of us will be there looking and showing. Birds are usually for sale out in the parking lot.
Jefferson GA on Jan. 19 and Clemson SC on Jan 26. If anyone would like more details just let me know and I will supply the websites.

Anyone in Simpsonville SC? I can't seem to find any concrete information on the chicken ordinances here. All of the city and county line stuff is so zig zaggy :)

Isn't the Clemson show all Bantams? Or will people likely have all kinds of chickens even if it is a bantam show?

Quote: The fall show in Nov. is all bantams but the show coming up the 26th is an all breed show so many LF will be entered, too. This is a great chance to go see what the breeds are really supposed to look like and meet some owners of these fabulous birds. There may be ducks and turkeys, too.
