Actually the guy that came out from animal control was telling me it was within my right to shoot the dog..apparently anything on your property that is a threat to any of your possessions, including animals and humans, that I can shoot to kill.
He also told me that in most circumstances he would collect the dog and the owner would pay an 85$ fine. But he took one look at my chicken coop fortress and my brand new really expensive privacy fence and said he was going to talk to his supervisor about charging the maximum penalty, dog at large, a 585$ fine AND a court appearance. He was very sympathetic to my situation and the great expense I went through to prevent this.
This dog already killed all of their chickens! And escapes daily! I am home all day monitoring my flock, and the one frickity frack time I step out to get groceries that stupid dog finds a way to climb their fence and penetrate my fortress....I was so sick about it when I got home I would have strangled that dog if I could catch it!!
Although I grew up with guns.. I have not personally owned a gun. My Father at this moment is calling from the grave, "Daughter of a card carrying NRA member, I lived and breathed owning guns and proudly carried a concealed weapons permit"..... "Go Get A Gun!"
I put in a 6' privacy fence, but I have a small area that is open and I plan to finish it, monthly I add to the fence...BUT, is it in my right on my own property to have a fence or not?
My neighbors have a complete perimeter fence to contain the dog, but they are a bit low on the IQ score, to put it nicely. They don't think the dog won't go over any of the sections that are not super secure..
The latest thing is they are saying I invited the dog in to play with my chickens...VERY low on the scale I tell u!
i could care less about that stupid dog. I guess it's the lack of brains on their part and the overwhelming scare tactics the children are using to intimidate my children.
I know for a fact if I had shot that dog, they would retaliate with my pets....UGH!!
They live directly behind me, an earshot away. My new privacy fence blocks 75% of their view and 100% of the dogs view of my chickens. In order for him to access my birds he has to cling his fence then go through the woods next door then come around my house through an opening.
Yes, I did get the "those are just chickens" and "how could I do this to her poor children"
Tell me this, if I do buy a pretty little ruger, and I defend my property...what do I do with the crazy, stupid, armed neighbor who lashes out at me...? Oh, and who's children also have guns? PS I'm a lady alone with 3 children 90% of the time as my husband travels for work. All my other guy neighbors would have SSS...
thanks for letting me rant and rave, I feel better already!!
under preditors and pests there are many suggestions, but...
1) do you have a perimeter fence?
2) do the neighbors have a fence?
3) what is the neighbors ATTITUDE?
4) Are they Trying to help?
5) how close are the neighbors?
6) are you armed?
there are several options, but it comes down to your neighbors can take care of it, or you can. I would suggest that after reading MANY of those posts, usually it ends up that the dog needs to go, one way or another. Rarely do the neighbors take ownership of the problem. usually you will hear "they are just chickens" well what if you kept a mountain lion and they kept loosing their dogs and cats? they are lower on the food chain too... these are your pets and they rely on you for protection.
animal control may help, but only after several reports of loose dog, and probably video evidense of what is going on.
without a long discussion of the whole situation, the dog needs to dissapear.
Probably not what you want to hear
