South Carolina

Hello from Bluffton! I am new to keeping chickens. Having moved from Philadelphia, behng in SC finally allows me to live the country life. My coop is going up and chicks will be arriving in three weeks. The excitement is overwhelming!!
christine9, you are my neighbor! I am over in Hardeeville. What kind of chicks are you getting? It is wonderful to see another chicken person/people on here from our area!

How exciting! Hi, neighbor!! Right now I have one jersey giant, one light brahma, one buff brahma, and one Delaware coming. But my coop is big enough for some serious chicken math! (I planned for it in advance).

Hey y'all I'm back again! Seeing predators are an issue for y'all as well this summer. My flock of 10 were taken yesterday mid morning. All but my blrw roo. I guess ill look for a couple full grown ladies then get chicks or pullets at Chickenstock. Sigh...

Feel bad for yea. It does happen. I have gotten lucky. Lost 1 birds a few weeks ago to a hawk. First one in over 3 years. Found a black snake in the nesting box yesterday. Stuipd snake, swallowed 2 golf balls and never got an egg. HAHAHAHAHA

Really sorry to hear that. Do you know what got them?

I'm thinking foxes. Happened during mid morning and dogs typically leave the bodies after they've played/killed. Right?

So if anyone has a pair of blrw or any large fowl hens in the upstate, let me know. Jack refuses to come out of the coop and won't crow. Breaks my heart :-(

Yes. A dog would just pile them up. Foxes will kill a lot of them then take them off and bury them for later. The roo will get better. Had a hawk a few weeks ago kill and eat a month old SLW in front of her 2 sisters. They wouldn't come out for a day. But are fine now.
