Yes, that is what I was referring to. The Anconas. I never said anything about Araucanas.
Despite what some people think or read about them, they do not lay well so most folks do not keep them around long. They are owned by few people because they do not pull their weight in many working farms. And forgive me if I say that the reviews on this site are usually from beginners that have not had them long enough to know what they are really capable of. A breeder can tell you more about them, preferably once that has had them longer than 2 years. Getting only 180 eggs a year from a breed is not a good layer. I think the reason I have heard so many do not own them is the flighty character and the lack of egg laying. Again, try to find a breed club for them here in the US and talk to actual breeders or order some from a hatchery. Most backyard enthusiasts will not have the breed.

Hello,

I know my chances of finding something are slim, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to post on here :)

I'm going to be relocating to Greenville, SC from Atlanta in the next few months and am looking to rent a house that has a coop in the backyard so my chickens can make the move with me. I am going to be heart broken if I have to get rid of my girls as I have grown very attached to them (and I feel that they have bonded with me as well).

If anyone knows of anything, please comment below. I would like to be close to downtown Greenville (within 15-20 minutes) and I also have two well behaved older dogs.

Thanks!
Chelsea

You can probably find some good spots to rent in Taylors area. Though Greenville often frowns on too many chickens, there are plenty of outlying areas that are very poultry friendly, as long as you don't have roosters. I can't think of any place right off the bat but I know many that have chickens in Greenville. There are some great Realtors that may be able to help. We have a Upstate Small Farm group on FB that has several on there that could probably help. If you would like to join and ask just PM me and I will provide a link.

Thank You for your help. I never heard from anyone they where light layers. Everyone I have talked to said they laid the most eggs of all of their chickens. The reason they do not like them is because they are noisy and spook to flight to easy. I have spoken with about 7 people and they all say the same thing.
I have several breeds and I enjoy them all. It does not matter to me if they are not good layers or if they are noisy/flighty. I enjoy having all kinds of birds. The first place I read about these birds where from a book called Keeping Chickens. It's a great book. You should check it out. I have also read about them here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancona_chicken
And also here on this site : https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/ancona Thank You so much for your help. Please if anyone has some for sale or trade let me know.

Oh, I don't think I need to check out that book. I have been in poultry for quite a few years and those types of books are much too basic. Great for beginners though.
I not only have been showing poultry in ABA and APA shows for quite a few years but also worked for an avian veterinarian for almost 20 years. My experience does not stop there as I am also a member of our local poultry club and not only have built and maintain the website but also put together the catalog every year.
I have heard and talked to many breeders of many birds through the years and though I do not want to knock your pursuit of a noble breed, I was merely trying to caution you on something I have a bit more experience on.
I hope you find some of that breed and get the experience of owning them for many years. It is always nice to see people actually stick with the more rare breeds of birds.

Thank You. for all your help. I am by no means as experience as you are. I have been raising chickens for around 2 years this go around. I did have some about 20 years ago for about 5 years until something broke into the pen and killed them all. This go around I am raising several breeds. Learning every day. It is so much fun.
Thank You again for your help.

I looked around for an Ancona Breeders club on the internet but did not find one. There is one in the UK, it seems. But I know people raise them here because I have talked to folks that had them. I never owned them myself but have run the gamete on owning a lot of the breeds to see what I liked or did not like. Those blasted bantam Cochins are stuck in my heart and I have owned them from the start. But I love LF, too.

Here is a page that has some links you can use though. Not sure if you have come across this or not. There appears to be a club in FL with a page for Anconas, though I did not investigate it.

You should look in travelers rest area, I buy chickens from two people who both live in cute neighborhoods with lots of chickens. I know a place in pacolet but it would be too far I think....anyway travelers rest is very chicken friendly. :)
