South Carolina

Looking forward to reading more of this thread here. Just wanted to say hello. I'm a new guy with small flock dreams. Lol. Down in the lowcountry of South Carolina, almost savannah.
Just wanted to stop in and say Hi.

I'll be looking to get some birds In a couple months I think. Should be building coop this weekend. We'll see how that progresses.

Hi Matt, welcome aboard!

Oz, was it you that asked about leakage? Here is my leaky blue

You may have to be on PC to see it, but look on his left shoulder. See those coppery looking feathers? That's why I'm not using him to breed. Bejammie's rooster is his brother, and I sold him to her before this one started showing those feathers. Hers is as close to perfect as any of mine were. Moral of the story: Hang on to your roosters as long as you can before culling, at least a couple, and wait at least six months before making your final decision. Some people say a year.
I sold that rooster to her for $10, and if this blue was the only rooster I had, I would give her $100 to have him back

I see. That little speck indicates corrupt color genetics? That's why you don't want to use him?

That's right

Oh and I'll give you $11.00 for the splash roo. He looks real leaky

The colors don't matter so much. Chickens all handle cold better than they do heat. Just provide them with shade and clean water, and you will be fine. I covered half of my pens with a metal roof last year, and even with the sweltering summer we had everyone was fine.
I do most of my redfishing in Station Creek, cobia and tarpon in the Broad :thumbsup

Thanks for the advise. I'll use it during construction and planning.

We enjoy cobia in the broad river also. Wish I had an idea of Tarpon. I bought a 10w fly rod just for them. :)
We go for reds, trout, and flounder in Bluffton around skull creek, and between harbor and hunting islands. Some good gigging places on station creek. I've heard anyhow.
