I am so sorry! I totally understand.
Our power went out this morning at 4:30 am and didn't come back on until 8 am. I put heat packs in all the brooders but had no idea what to do about the bators other than cover them. My hatcher dropped down to 80 but I had heat packs in for the already hatched chicks. I never opened the Sportsman to see what it was like.
Yeah, a generator is real nice to have when DH will keep gas in it! He had only been in bed an hour when the power went off and I couldn't get him up to go get more. Geez! You should have seen me outside at 5 am trying to siphon gas out of HIS car to put in the generator in my house coat and slippers. He never keeps enough gas in there though to get out so that was a loss.
I lost a few little chicks down at the barn even with all those heat packs in with them. I realized it wasn't just the heat from them being on them that helps but the air they breathe. I had the brooders covered in blankets but it didn't help as I lost 6 chicks.
We'll see what the bator shows me now. I will candle tonight and for the next few days to see what I have growing or dying.
Thanks, Duke Energy! I hear we are getting a rate increase as well!
Off to get more gas for the generator myself and restock my heat pack supply.
