Yup, that is what I was telling dixie beast. The breeder did well at Crossroads, which is a huge plus for us, I believe! She knows her stuff.

And that is where I got the idea I needed blacks!

She will be my go-to person when I can swing getting another variety.
That white lady is so totally gorgeous!! And she has quickly learned to deal with all my affection. I would love to have some blacks in the future.

Are you sure you tried to get me into these last year or before? How did I miss these wonderful birds? And why didn't I listen to you?

Wanna bet that is a roo?

You see that pose often when Nicole picks up a roo! I have not seen another person do an adult roo that way except her. I am sure dixie beast is hoping for plenty of girls though. It does look like a man flopped out there all happy like that.

DixieBeast that posted that pic happens to be my DD so that is why I took note of the post but also...if someone has some heads-up insight I would like to know about my chikks...I will try to take some pics tomorrow and post with the question...wish me luck!

Get some photos of the combs and I can probably help. Head on shots are my best way of telling. I have been tagging some of my chicks as boys or girls and getting 99% correct so I can tell usually from hatch what I have.

That is how we tell when they are chicks....by her picking them up. So far, she has not been wrong - I was only wrong once - I just wanted Forrest to be a roo too bad LOL and got a pullet. You should see her, Amy! She has GREAT type!!

I almost always have it opened in a tab, just never take the time to sit and read to catch up. I only sit a few minutes here and there usually. Lucky me this will be a slow week! We have to go pick up horse feed today, and that is about all for the week. Pop has no appointments this week, neither do I nor DH!

Maybe I can get some housework done! I swear it looks like a disaster area here!

I am so sorry! I totally understand.
Our power went out this morning at 4:30 am and didn't come back on until 8 am. I put heat packs in all the brooders but had no idea what to do about the bators other than cover them. My hatcher dropped down to 80 but I had heat packs in for the already hatched chicks. I never opened the Sportsman to see what it was like.
Yeah, a generator is real nice to have when DH will keep gas in it! He had only been in bed an hour when the power went off and I couldn't get him up to go get more. Geez! You should have seen me outside at 5 am trying to siphon gas out of HIS car to put in the generator in my house coat and slippers. He never keeps enough gas in there though to get out so that was a loss.
I lost a few little chicks down at the barn even with all those heat packs in with them. I realized it wasn't just the heat from them being on them that helps but the air they breathe. I had the brooders covered in blankets but it didn't help as I lost 6 chicks.
We'll see what the bator shows me now. I will candle tonight and for the next few days to see what I have growing or dying.

Thanks, Duke Energy! I hear we are getting a rate increase as well!

Off to get more gas for the generator myself and restock my heat pack supply.

Looks to me like the chicken tried to swallow the Midas... and lost!

Very cute!

Yeah well Midas swallowed 9 earlier this year so this is payback..and he knows it!
