South Carolina

Yes, that's my only issue is most of the minimums are 15 or 25, and the ones that don't have high minimums won't get to me til about June or August

This is the first time I've been on the PC to see you were from Sumter. I'm not sure about down there, but up here the feed stores and TSC usually start selling Feb-March.
Is raising them to sell an option? Do you have room?. A $3.00 pullet chick will sell for $12-15 here at 2-3 months old

I prefer not to have to raise and sell, do you know what the limit is on chick from TSC? And are they usually sexed there?

6 from TSC, and usually unsexed. I don't know about down there, but up here on CL people will order hatchery pullets, then resell them for around $7. That's a little expensive for hatchery chicks, but no minimum. Go to farm and garden on CL, and search "chicks" and "pullets"

Anyone know of any good hatcheries in the state? I'm looking to get about 6 pullets ASAP
Hey there neighbor I'm from Sumter too! In this area TSC usually has chicks around late Febuary, that's how I got my first flock two years ago. Last year I got chicks from Southern States, I missed their first shipment because I was not expecting them to have chicks that early (Febuary)! They get several different breeds in at different times. I have been thrilled with the new girls and am looking forward to adding some more this spring. Good Luck!

Hey!!!!! I am going to check out southern states, but I am thinking we may just order some from a hatchery online, but we will see, I may call up there tomorrow and see when they'll be getting their first shipment! I just want to be able to get a good mix of pullets!

The manager at Southern States in Sumter is Brent. We go to church together. He can tell you when they'll be getting in the first chicks and may be able to get the breed you want. Last spring, he added some Buff Orpingtons to an order for me. They also don't have a minimum. I get my feed and othe supplies there instead of TSC because their so nice in there and owned local!

Great to know! I won't forget his name either since my other half has the same name

I do get my dog food from SS so it won't be a problem for me to get all my chicken supplies from there either!

Last year I was going to order from a hatchery, but by the time I came up with a minimum order it was going to be June before I got chicks and it was REALLY expensive and I was limited in what I could get! I spent 1/3 the amount and got everything from Southern States. It was just in two different batches. We got the Brahmas and Buffs, then the next month we got the EE's,Cuckoos, and SLW's. I'm really hoping to get some GLW's this year and Im going to get some more EE's. We have fallen head over heels in love with our EE's , they are soooo gorgeous and lay beautiful green eggs! I just wish they would lay them in the nest, they prefer the corner of the coop in the floor and occasionally right smack dab in the middle of the doorway!

We open the door very carefully now!

Oh goodness! Lol! We are just beginning our chicken journey! We currently have two biddies that we received from the man who we bought our coop from. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they are pullets!
