Sorry, I don't know of any local hatcheries, but that does warrant some research.Thank you! Know of any local reputable hatcheries?
Hello everyone! I joined just over a week ago and am just now seeing this thread. I am from Sumter and I have 6 chickens (will be adding 6 more this spring.) 1 rooster (RIR) and 5 hens (2 RIR, and 3 ISA Brown). I might be looking for Barred Rock eggs soon if anyone close by has any they are selling.
Welcome to the thread Tiffany. You can find Dorkings here; https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/silver_gray_dorkings.html I've had good results with mail order chicks.Hello! My name is Tiffany and I have a chicken problem lol. I have had my heart set on some Dorking chickens and just got a call that my order didn't hatch. I currently have ayem cemani, lavendar ameraucanas, RIR, light brahma, barred rock and some farm mutts. I'm in Aiken County, SC and was wondering if anyone knew of anyone with dorking chicks, chickens or even eggs. I'm willing to have shipped or even travel a bit.
I use alfalfa and timothy grass, in my run, what the girls don't eat, will eventually get composted, helping keep odors down, that's the theory anyhow.Chipping in on the litter discussion, I'm doing all alfalfa hay in the coop. Two reasons, my coop is elevated and the hay is light to work with and the girls like digging seeds out of it.
Hey Chickassan, how often do you put fresh alfalfa out? I refresh twice a month.Chipping in on the litter discussion, I'm doing all alfalfa hay in the coop. Two reasons, my coop is elevated and the hay is light to work with and the girls like digging seeds out of it.
