Just when I think I have a gorgeous pullet growing up, too!

I do not think a bump on the back of the leg would help since I have several hens with spurs. Cochin, Welsummer and a Wyandotte to name a few.

what about that picture makes you "see" 3 roos? I had the same question about the bumps on legs with my babies.....just trying to see if theres a way to tell early??

If you read through the sex-link information thread, pay close attention to the color method for sexing. If you have the same breed, the males will be "silver" (pale yellow) and the females will be "gold" (golden yellow).

It does NOT work for every breed or color combination of parents!

My five Christmas babies have the same father and choice of two mothers that are sisters. Early Bird is a silver chipmunk and Late Bird is a golden chipmunk. Thing One and Thing Two (hey, the kids named them) are grey. Who knows? (lol) The Black One (still in search of a cool name) did not have a white spot on his head. Based upon his size and behavior, he's a boy!

Also on that same sex-link thread there was information about feather sexing. I couldn't tell enough of a difference on my birds' wings. Some where someone said "girls grow tails first while boys grow combs first.". Early Bird and Late Bird held true for tails. His was still a nub and hers was feathering out.

Anyway, when I saw the chicks in the picture, I thought "2 girls & 3 boys" based upon their base colors of gold and silver.

I can't make it to any shows this weekend, but PLEASE keep mentioning them! If I can visit my parents AND attend a chicken show the same weekend, well, it's that whole "two birds, one stone" thing!

See the two big ones in the middle? And the one on the right? They look big compared to the others. maybe the way they are standing but those long thick legs yell a lot. And the one on the right, it has a lot of area to grow a comb. The brown one in the front middle? She has a smaller body, thinner legs and the one on the left looks to have a smaller comb area.

Hard to tell in a photo but that is my guess. I am usually good with most birds except Silkies...... and I suppose Frizzles according to Miss Snick! LOL

I am too tired to deal with snow!

If it snows I am ready but I hope it isn't much. I am not sure I can drag myself through it to do chores. My chickens and ducks have decided it is time to start laying and I have been busy trying to get the duck breeding pens done. It sure doesn't seem like I am making any head way but I am sure before I know it things will be accomplished and I can sit by the pool with a Daiquiri...that is, if I had a pool and drank alcohol.

Be careful on the roads and bridges, folks. It may not be much but it only takes a bit to really mess you up!
