I have 4 donkeys which have been useless in protecting the livestock! But the coyote trap worked.
I don't have an LGD. I have a blind & deaf old lab who doesn't even know when I pull in. Oh, well! We have one hawk we've seen that stays up at the front of the farm and two little birds that chase it off when it heads back towards the chickens. They must have a nest there somewhere. So far I havent' lost any chickens to anything except the 3 dogs we used to have. They were rehomed after they killed most of our goats. Which of course the donkeys watched.
Right now I'm getting 4 dozen eggs a day and I have 30 EE that will start laying soon. It's too much! I'm focusing more on breeding going forward. I have one commercial account but they don't sell as much as I get.
I'm definitely keeping my Marans and Ameraucanas and Silkies. And I'm going to keep my Big Cochins. Those are my breeders. I'm trying to decide who else I can part with! I have a lot of EE that lay all shades of green and blue. I have 3 Light Brahma and 2 Buff Brahma. I have 3 Partridge Rocks and a Dominque. Then the teeny ones: 4 serama hens, 3 bantam cochin hens (2 barred and 1 black), a smooth silkie/cochin hen. I have a bunch of chickens that are close to laying: 30 EE, 2 Columbian Rocks, and some Olive Eggers.
I also have some Olive Egger roos and 2 Wheaten Sizzle Roos (one frizzled and one smooth). Anyone wants those, come get them!
So if you're interested in any of those, let me know. I need to talk to my children and see who they are willing to part with. We have so many EE that I know they won't miss a couple!
