GREER, S.C. -- An Greer teen said someone stole a rooster and hen from his backyard chicken farm.
"I've got around 40 or 50 chickens," said 14-year-old Will Uldrick. "I haven't really counted lately."
Uldrick said he and his father saw two people break into their fenced-in yard over the weekend and then saw them run away. He said they did not realize the fowl were missing until their rooster didn't do his usual early morning crowing.
"We suspect someone just comes up and down this road regularly, saw the roosters at the road and just decided one night to go and take them," Uldrick said.
Uldrick said he is not sure why someone would want their birds, but he'd like to see them returned.
The birds are valued at more than $1,000, Uldrick said.
Anyone with information about the missing birds was asked to call Greenville County Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.

My 10-yr old son was like, "What chicken is worth that much?" Exactly....

OMG - this is a friend of mine and also a neighbor!! I'll have to check with him and see what's going on. I know he keeps game chickens and some of those roosters do sell for $100's each. Still, that's a big price. He also has some of my serama's and silkies so I need to call and check on "my" babies.

How awful!

Again, so sorry that we stayed that late Amy. I had no idea it was that late until it started getting dark! YIKES! I had so much fun, always love seeing your birds and chatting with you. I always learn something too. My boys are good kids, Jonah is a bit impatient when we get past the "looking at chickens" part and get more to the "talking" part.

I did get them supper on the way home, then they both pitched in and helped me unload the car and check on my birds. Thanks for complimenting them, I'll make sure they know you bragged on them. And thanks again for the visit, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Can't believe you suggested I should've come earlier so I could stay longer!!

Next time I'll bring snacks.

Oh, and of course I came away with some really sweet birds too.

Both of Joy's boys are that way! So polite too!

Unfortunately Nicole has my habit of talking a lot.....so she is always right there in convos!

I have noticed that on the egg swap/auctions also.

I just watch for something I want

Thanks Kim! They really are good boys. And I enjoyed seeing you and talking chickens the other day too! How are your eggs, have you candled them yet?

Obviously I am raising the wrong breed of chickens!!!!!

Has anyone else wondered why these 2 fools....er, I mean, chicken owners did not go outside and see what was going on when they saw someone breaking in?????
And then saw them run away, why did they not call the police then????
Hey, here is an idea....if someone is breaking into your property, you call the police or get your gun. I prefer the gun, myself.
Sounds to me like someone has some personal issues.
And really, who is the ding dong that told this poor kid his birds were worth so much? I bet he really believes they are valued at that.

Sorry, I did not mean to sound hateful but that is too much!

OMG! Joy! You are going to have to move! Or arm yourself with powerful weapons. I know your chickens are priceless! What if these thieves had come to your place???
You do seem to meet up with some ...different people.

And yes, you need to come over sometime when you can stay longer.

I love talking with you!

Actually, I wish I could organize a get together for us chicken talkers. I could get some port a potties out here in the front field after having it mowed. Set up some awnings, load a few tables down with food or have pot luck from everyone. We could gab for hours on end with each other and then everyone could help me do chores!

If I had a nicer place I would love to get us all together. We have so much to share and I would love for you all to meet more of my wonderful chicken friends that do not get on here. I just can't organize parties and am a terrible hostess.

Amy, My kids will help clean waterers, if its hot they may get more on them than in the waterer though lol, They also like to help feed.... I'll rent them out
