I knew the storm was coming. I had a really good weather bird watching my back.
When he went to roost in the coop I knew I better batten down the hatches. So far he has well earned the small amount of grain he eats.

Everyone finally accepts him. He cuddles up inside the coop with the hens and I haven't seen him be mean to anyone and no one has picked on him. They were just scared of his strange looking self to start.

If you don't look at the head he is actually very pretty. Can't wait to see what color the lavender keets grow up to be. I have about 8 in that color and one that I think is Opaline.

Tiffany and other upstate pals,
Glad to hear you guys survived that crazy storm so well. We didn't get off lightly but we're safe and it's all fixable.

Has anyone heard from Joy? I know that we're close and there's alot of damage here (Hwy. 296, the Reidville Rd. or Bennett's Bridge Rd. area in Simpsonville) but we rode up toward 85 and Abner Creek this morning about 2 a.m. and it looked like that area wasn't hit as hard. We had about 15 trees broken or uprooted.

One clipped the corner of our house and took out our bedroom window 3 stories up and part of the screened porch below. We also stood at the window and watched one slowly come down inch by inch onto our propane tank. Five were across the drive and our power line. We met the Laurens Electric crew coming down the drive about midnight as we were working our way up, dh with the chainsaw and me throwing limbs and stuff to the side. Otherwise, we figured they might never make it in to us and I was worried about the stuff in my freezers. They had our power back on by 12:45! We were wet and dirty, so we came in and had warm showers then went to Denny's for a combo dinner and breakfast at 3 a.m.

There was still a huge beautiful oak down across the Hwy. nearby on into this morning. And the tin roof on the shed next door to that was totally stripped off and wadded up in the yard. The storm had put a swing set in their drive and I don't remember them even having a swing.

Luckily everyone outside (dog and cat) were safe. Our chicks are still getting room service in the garage so they were fine. They knew it was coming though. I've been putting off getting a coop ready for them since it's been so hot and we're planning to be away awhile around the 4th. This way they can take a little trip and stay at Grandpa and Grandma's while we're gone.

Now, back to my raking and cleaning up. I just hope that insurance adjustor can get out here soon.

You have all those tall trees around your place? That's what my brother has and they scare me to death!! I watched them sway the other night when another storm had come through... and they just rocked back and forth. I hope the adjuster comes quickly so you can get all your damage assesed for a quick repair. I'm really glad it didn't come any closer to your house and you got your power back pretty quick! I heard there was alot of damage in some of the area's I still can't get over how that storm rolled in... it was very creepy it came so fast and those clouds were so sinister looking

Need Advice! My two beautiful Buff Orpington Roos need to find a new home... I can't get away with having a rooster where I live. So I have no choice but to part with them. They are like part of the family and I don't want to think I give them away to somebody that eats them. I know that's stupid~ it's a chicken but I love my chickens

So I posted an add on craigslist with no bites all week. I called the place where I bought the as (pullets) and they posted my number on a board, and then I called Vaughn's in Simpsonville and there is a guy there, they said he takes wayward chickens that need a home and he will re-home them. Now I would love to think that's the case but I also wonder if thats code talk for freezer camp?? I know I'm running out of options but what do ya'll think?? Is there anyone out there you know might want to adopt them?! I was going to try and sell them so I know they don't become dinner. But if somebody would like to give them a home I'd reconsider the cost

I am also wondering how the 1 girl that has bonded with them is going to react once they are gone? She is my oldest female about 14 weeks old along with the boys and I have 3 younger pullets about 11 weeks old and she is always bossy and pecks at the younger pullets. I'm hoping all the girls will live happily ever after, but I still cage them seperately for now because it worry's me she might draw blood on the smaller ones. They free range all day together and they are fine. But confining them in a smaller space makes me nervous~ She might mellow out once the boys are re-homed Then, all she'd have is the other girls...

I feel bad not posting pics of my first babies...Now Way Grown!!!! SO..........
This is Moya my BuffOrp...She is a wanderer...so I had to clip a wing to keep her in the fence. Although it did stop her from jumping the fence she now loves to guard the coop door near twilight and let the other hens in...oh and she hates the rooster "Big Bleu"

OMG! Naddy Blue! Too wonderful!
I have a feeling that when she is older she will fall in love with Big Bleu! I mean, after all he is the right color for her. And little miss bossy BR is going to be the boss for a long time. It may be well into winter before she accepts the affections of his majesty!
He is a different color from the one I have. Isn't it funny when they come from the same eggs? I guess different moms put in different genes so it gets a bit different.
Your flock is very pretty. I can't believe a fat BO can fly over the fence. How rotten of her!

Here is a photo of a odd colored keet. I think it is real pretty! I thought it was an Opaline but a more expert Guinea owner said it isn't that and could be several other colors so just watch it mature and see. I thought at first it was a lavender but you can tell beside the other lavender that it isn't. I like the coloring though, whatever it will be.
