Phoneman..

do you still have americauna girls for sale? I need at least 2 hens for the Colton.. here's what he's doing.. for homeschooling science project of the year.. he,, Colton is going to band the girls and keep track of who's eggs are who's then he is going to prove two hypothesis.

1- with a black father and a _____ mother what % of eggs will be black and % of her color.
2- when raising chicks- A- keeping a light on 24hrs a day makes the chicks grow faster and stronger or
B- having the light on has no basis for growth rate, instead it is dependent on genes.

I think he has chosen two good questions to be answered. He chose Americauna's as the breed for two reasons, they are a gentile breed that is also hardy to weather. they also have enough color to do % 's of offspring unlike Australorps which are all black .

I guess he is listening to me.. hahha... I try hard not to influence his ideas and let him come up with them himself. he does a good job at verbal and reasoning skills, and math,, Hates reading and writing,,

let me know if you have any available.. We offically start school Monday.. yeahhh ,,, ohhhh happy and reluctant at the same time.. I truly do enjoy homeschooling them.. we do so much and do lots of field trips and experiments that they otherwise wouldn't.

any hoooo

have a great sat.

Phoneman,

It was a real pleasure meeting you and your birds! Gorgeous. I'll be wanting some of those blues when my boy gets around to another pen for me. LOL And everyone else, hi, I didn't make proper introductions, just jumped on here. Farmer John, thanks for the intro to phoneman.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm actually up around Campobello which is a few miles north of Spartanburg.

Welcome to the SC board. I was in Campobello yesterday with Lou Ann we were getting chicken feed from Williams Feed. A friend told us about it so we thought we would give it a try. We both live in Greenville, near Furman University and Paris Mountain.

that could be the word, i cant remember. but the way he explained it, i think that is what happened

I agree. I just hope it doesn't happen again. We are very close (finally) to starting on our house but we are having it built for coastal winds (130 mph). I hope that will keep it safe. And we're doing a commercial grade tin roof. I'm tired of shingles being everywhere.

Fried Oreos are yummy! Now I want one.

A barn raising.... now that sounds fun! Bringing a bottle of wine and a rooster cracked me up! I'm not sure we have the knowledge for the construction but we can always find someone. I think that might be a really fun idea and what a great story to tell!

We thought about putting one of the jacks in there but they have killed our baby goats in the past. However, that was when they were all separated and now they all kind of hang out together so it might be different. My husband doesn't think the donkeys were intending to hurt the baby yesterday but they definitely weren't letting the mama near it. I'll have to think about it.

I woke up at 7 am and went out to check on the lamb. All the sheep were up by the pasture gate... lamb included! Usually they take off when someone approaches, but they didn't. Uh oh. I look up and there's that dang dog, in the pasture, sniffing where she had the baby, about 50 ft from where we were. I ran as fast as I could, fell on the steps going into the house, woke everyone up screaming. Unfortunately that stupid dog saw my husband coming with the gun and took off. I know it's hungry. It's really skinny. We might set a trap for it tonight.

I hate predators!

Susanne, Blueberry Hill, a friend of mine that is on here was having a "chix coop" build this morning. She listed it as an event on facebook. I can't wait to hear how it turned out. I think a barn raising could be fun.

Hey Phoneman, I'm curious to know what you're getting with your splash roo to splash hen breeding? Do you hatch all splash chicks? I've ended up with a few extra splash marans roosters and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.

And I want some splash chicks too! I have two splash roos but no hen in my Marans coop. I think you need two splash. Curious minds want to know!

Don, thanks for info. After reading that, I do think we had a downdraft. It would make since looking at how the coops got picked up and thrown.

A coop raising party! Very interested in how that went!
