Well I was looking at our young French Copper Marans this morning and I think they are both roos. These were the only 2 birds we got from our Bev Davis line eggs. We will probably be making some chicken soup in the future!

I am gearing up now to go out and catch my pen of young guinea/keets this morning and meet a man that wants to buy them all. I sure hope he does not change his mind! I made him a very good deal to get them out of here and get some feed money. I am keeping the Coral Blues from the pen though--but there are only a few. Blues are all anyone asks for when the call!

Joy did you ever get a hatch from your guinea eggs I sent you? Is it too soon?

Well, the crates are ready--I just hope DD sleeps a little longer. Here guinea, guinea, guinea.....

AMY they are way cute...When they get older I would love to see pics(or in person) of the colors, I can't imagine the colors that all the keets come in!!!

Thanks, Yancy! I need a heads up sometimes about the posts since I get to read very little lately. The chicken business has all of a sudden jumped again and I am spending time rushing around trying to catch up in all the areas. But I am not going to complain about this last week. I haven't had such a good week since last spring!

Anywhoooooo, yes, you can come and visit anytime! Guineas come in so many wonderful colors and patterns. This is all very new to me so I am excited to learn more about them. You are welcome to come see them but I am sure I will take photos of them once they are in a breeding pen.....or two.

And all the dark ones will be out free ranging. And goodness knows, I have a lot for sale now.

I can say they are nothing like the chickens! I do like seeing them and watching them and I don't mind the noise, so far.

The Guinea girl I got from Joy finally hatched out her keets. A hawk flew in and got some, I believe. I saw it fly in but I don't know how many times. I don't know if all 6 hatched out but I know that Guinea Boy is a proud papa of 2 and he is watching them very closely. It was really cool to watch Guinea Boy running around the paddock with his wings out to cover his kids. Guinea Girl was totally upset and screaming when I got back there to see what the problem was. It's funny that I have little chicks out all the time with the Silkies and Cochins but the hawk immediately flew in once the Guinea brought the keets off the nest. But then, Guineas announce EVERYTHING! It is a wonder anything survives with their clan.
I called Jolie and told her to go protect the blasted keets so off she went to find shade in the back paddock. She had been up visiting with Nikki when she came to pick up her Silkie chicks (OMG, those buggers are totally adorable!) so once Jolie say how upset everyone was she opened both eyes and went to work. We did not see the hawk the rest of the day.

I did not realize that Aesop said the last quote. And I have read much of his work. The mind can forget so much!
Thanks for sharing!

We were riding around on the golfcart with the kids and my daughter said, "It's sprinkling." I also wasn't expecting rain. Not sure how much we got but it did rain heavy for at least a few minutes. Not enough though! Hope your chickies are better.

Be glad the Bev Davis birds are roos. I found most to be a poor quality for people like us. They do not lay well, they lay smaller than my Whitmore Farms birds and they lay lighter colored eggs, too. She breeds for showing. I breed for temperament, egg laying and meat. I think my birds are beautiful and they are definitely sweet and easy to work with. I love the big dark eggs and mine lay year around except when molting, of course.
Check out Whitmore Farms for some really great Marans.

do most of you keep your roosters seperated? if not how do you know which eggs are for eating and giving away. or does it matter ias long as the go straight to the fridge? thanks for any help.

I will be prepared for this week coming rain..
