Have had a rough few days! Thursday my treasured spoiled rir rooster was picking on the dogs as normal and my dog turned and attacked. It was terrible. My second jack Russell came running to join the attack and I had one yanking Toffee by the throat and another ripping his butt. No matter what I did I couldn't get them off him. I shouted, screamed, kicked, etc. And I was helpless. I was on my lunch break from work and it was just me trying to pull two dogs off my rooster. It didn't stop for about 4 minutes. And I think it only did because the dogs were exhausted.

I thought he was dead. His feathers were everywhere. He was limp in my arms. His bottom beak was cracked. His throat had been twisted and strangled. I treated the wounds the best I could as a migraine set in from the chaos and took him to my work to see the vet in the morning.

We have him on Baytril. He's actually doing incredibly well. No idea how! He for a while just stood with his head hanging down. But I make sure he drinks. He's been eating the pill on his own. And this morning he was even eating some feed. I can't express how happy I am to see him slowly recovering!

Oh and through the whole attack I had it on video. Well you hear it. My phone was on the ground! And I had an egg in my pocket and it never cracked!!!

I was already in the house with everyone closed up for the night when DD said the wind was getting up. I stepped outside and sure enough, the wind was whipping and we had a sprinkle. Not enough to even wet the deck good but I am sure the birds enjoyed the cool breezes to sleep in since I have been turning the fans off at night.

Yup, you can tell it is Labor Day weekend when it says it will rain for a few days. I have been able to mark Labor Day weekend for more than 30 years with rain. I think maybe 4 times during all those years it hasn't rained on Labor Day weekend.
We used to do the big wagon train ride up in Hendersonville NC every year and sometimes it would only mist rain and other times we had to head home after the first night because of the heavy rains. Nothing worse than sitting in a wet saddle all day or all weekend.

I am missing the question. I do not understand what you are asking.

For one thing, my eggs do not go into the fridge unless they are washed and I do not wash most of my eggs. They sit on the counter sometimes for a week or more before we eat them and have sat out as long as 3-4 weeks before we eat them. I keep the misshapen, calcium spotted, heavily pooped on ones.

I hate to hear this! I know you were stressed beyond belief and the rest of the day was like a nightmare but I am super glad he is doing better.
Next time that something like that happens try turning the hose pipe on them. That has always worked. Might drown the poor roo but the dogs usually back off.

We were riding around on the golfcart with the kids and my daughter said, "It's sprinkling." I also wasn't expecting rain. Not sure how much we got but it did rain heavy for at least a few minutes. Not enough though! Hope your chickies are better.

so Odd isnt it.. as close as we are that you got some and it downpoured for a full hour or more.. like inches of rain... killed me I had to through out a whole trough of feed that I had put out so they have breakfast int he morning,( they wake up before I do) and it was filled tot he brim with rain water and thats under the tarps just drip water.. ahhh... I will be prepared for this week coming rain..

Hey ya'll my upside down chick is still alive.. still drinking and taking the nutra-cal.. Ideas? its not getting better shes developing her wing feathers just like the other normal ones.. but of course she cant walk ... I just dont know how to euthanize her.. I dont think I can and I cant starve her or hold back water thats just cruel.. Ideas? maybe if shes still alive on monday Ill take her to Amys for the freezer camp. and get some help?

Not that I agree with any of the suggested methods, but there are some ideas on BYC re euthanization. I've found carbonminoxode method, freezer method, scissors, soothing w/ baking soda and a coffee can. I just make my husband do it!!! Fortunately for me, the one I thought I was gonna have to cull, dissapeared.

Sorry I didn't get to answer with this sooner but Nutri Cal won't do squat if it is wry neck. You need high doses of Vit E. Buy the capsules, puncture an end of it and squirt it in her mouth. Wash down with some water or Pedialyte. Do it once or twice a day depending on how many mgs you buy in the capsules. If not improvement in 4-5 days then she can be put down.
