I'm confused, still on the first part of my coffee but you said only turn until day 10....why? They have to be turned for at least 16-18 days. Mother hen does it so that is what has to happen, though again, eggs can take more than we think when incubating them.
And if you want to candle them, go ahead. Chickychickybaby does hers every day!

Not really, but her DD accuses her of it!

When I had eggs shipped in the first time I was told I could not touch the eggs with my fingers or it would clog the pores and the eggs would not hatch. Years later, I realize the folks telling me about hatching eggs did not have a clue and from experience I have learned what I can and can not do.
Yes, I still make mistakes but I open my bator almost every day and handle my eggs without washing my hands

and they still hatch.

Just in case though, you do need to continue to roll your eggs and if you want to candle, you go right ahead and show your kids how life is created. This is a perfect example!

I agree with Amy.......Rotate till day 18.

I also look at mine all the time. Several times a week. Maybe every other day. Open the incubator up, candle, etc. No problems so far. Cant resist.

Y'all need to read that again. She says she is resisting the urge to do anything other than turn the eggs until Day 10. I guess because that's a "been there, done that" recently I get what she's saying. I am guilty of pulling eggs from the 'bator every evening to show Hubby the squirmy stuff after the kiddos went to bed. The kids were "ho hum". At least DH thought it was neat.

Maybe you needed two cups of tea like I had, lol.

Her legs are very feathered (at least in my opinion they are). I had a mix of clean legged and feathered legs hatch from those eggs. This girl was by far the prettiest. I have a black one that would have been gorgeous if the other chicks hadn't pecked her so much in the incubator. Her eye never healed right so she's got a "good side" and a "bad side" I'll try to get a good pic of her legs today.

Just wanted to share my little OEGB with you guys!! It already holds its tail up. I still do not know what color it is going to be but I am thinking a wheaton or blue wheaton.

I have 4 more eggs in the bator and development in the 2 oldest ones. The little hen only lays two eggs(a day or two apart) then stops for about a week or so. She is teasing me! I do love these little birds!!

Nah, they all don't come out with heavy feathered legs, some are clean legged but most have the feathering. I do not breed for looks, I breed for temperament, egg color and meat. The feathered legs are just icing on the cake. Sometimes it is thin and sometimes it is heavy.

They should come out feather legged as it is dominant and my roos always seem to have it.

A few hens do not but the meat is still good and the egg color is usually very nice and dark.
