I'll take your 3 cents anytime! Lol!! I'm really excited about hatching from my call duck pair this spring...and nervous! They're so dang cute. Not SQ but they are good breeder quality...so I really want to get some adorable ducklings from them! That's funny that the ducklings clean the chicks! ahh I can't wait! I'm definately going to get me a couple silkies or cochins but I'm also starting to consider a new incubator the more I think about it...

My experience with calls, my call duck went broody and hatched her own babies last year. She sat on only 3 eggs. My cochins seem to go broody faster and more often than my silkies and they lay better too when they're not broody. Call ducks are not easy to hatch in the incubator, duck eggs in general need more humidity but you can mist them daily with a spray bottle and that helps a lot. The call ducks don't lay often, they are the silkies of the duck world. Those 3 eggs were the only eggs I got from her all summer. I am watching for her to lay again and I will collect a few of her eggs to try in the incubator. If she continues to lay I will see if she wants to sit and raise her own again. She made a great mother and those ducklings grow very fast.

Alright, what do people have in their incubator? I have to live vicariously through all of you since mine are empty. I am so fighting to hold off until February before I put more in it. I have so many silkie eggs right now but just do not want any chicks unless a hen is caring for them--but I can still hear what everyone else is hatching!

Also, do we have anyone on here that raise rose comb RIRs? Or have in the past? Just wondering what they are like in personality.

I have New Hampshires, Delewares, and Barred Rocks in the incubator.
I am finished hatching White Leghornes, Rhode Island Reds and "Easter Eggers" (I like playing with the "Easter Eggers").
I have never owned rosed comb Reds. I have been around a flock, and they appeared generally good natured. I imagine that in general, they would be similar to SC Reds.
