Update on Necropsy!

Well, the cause of death was "unknown" in my Polish. But, the good news it was nothing viral. I will have to scan and post the necropsy results at a later time. I'm too lazy to type it and stuff.

Awfull to not know but great its not viral and you dont have to cull your flock! I know that was a concern!

This is the girl I picked up yesterday.

She had a bath and is still a little damp.
I had already clipped some feathers around her eyes so she could see to eat.
The date is never right on my camera

Last week a (BIG BIG) bear hit one of my beeyards. Before and after pic. It looked like a tornado had hit the hives. Lost all seven. The bear had dragged stuff back into the woods. His footprints looked about 7-8 in. across.

We aren't doing any breeding as of yet. But I am very determined this year. Starting with a veggie garden. I am hoping to NOT have to buy any veggies (let alone eggs) at the grocery store very soon. I know its going to take time. But i can't wait for that first grocery trip. I am also eagerly anticipating my first freshly laid eggs. This weekend we are going to set up our composter and get rain barrels. and we plan on making a homemade solar dehydrator once those veggies start coming and in the fall an in-ground root cellar. So many ideas bursting from my brain. I swear, I was born a California city girl, but my soul keeps pulling me more and more into the country and towards a simpler way of life.

AWESOME way of thinking...I'm the same way...Looks Big City, but really just a good country boy!!! I too, am getting pulled into a simpler way of life(but I do enjoy alot of technology-I will not lie)!!!

Oh no!!! I have yet to personally deal with bears at our house but have friends that have. I hate that happened! I really need to come visit you soon and see all your silkies! I don't have an excuse for not coming sometime since I'm only five minutes away!

First...The Silkie is one hot mamma!!

Second...can you get a permit in your zone for nuisance bear? If so...I love some bear meat! Have rifles,will travel!! A rug would be nice too!!
