You are the Bestest!!!! I will take it all in and pray all goes well..... BUT i know what will be the hardest thing is when one hatches and dries and I can't take it out and love the fuzzy!!!!

Sure you can! I do it all the time! Lock down is just another term that I ignore. I get very good hatches.

Oh yeah......

....I have 4 pullets and only one roo in the last hatch of MF d'Uccles. I can't believe my luck! These are from SQ birds so I am tickled. Still like Teddi's better but she shows hers, too.

So over the last 2 sunny days off...which took 3 weekends to get...my DH built me this (pic below)for my D'uccles...

So today I took the smaller version that had no built on nest boxes and vinyl siding ( he put it on legs with a floor monday morn before he left for the week...it was on ground with open bottom) and I ripped the siding off,put wood siding on...put vinyl flooring in,added nest boxes, sand, and caught scrappy and his gal! Then I moved Dixies Sumatras into scrappy's big coop!! I mean they are just a teeny pair of OEGB and the others needed the space more! And I only bled once and only fell once(different times) It was a good morning!!It now looks like this only a foot less long and half a foot less deep!! I am gonna wire the bottoms for a small run and let the Duccles take turns there during day. I have got to get back to free ranging but I hear the hawk everytime I am outside!! I let my big birds out but my teenies I worry over!!

Sweet!!!!!

Congrats on the extra coop space dixiebeast We never have enough coops do we.

Re: National Agricultural Classification Survey
I have received a survey (manditory) from the Dept. of Ag. every year since I applied for a Farm ID #. If I forget to send it in, they call and take the survey over the phone. It is mostly about my bees but also has questions about the other things that might be on the property like fruit trees, berries, etc.
I am not sure if this is the same as the one listed above. I just know I get it every year in Dec./Jan.

Amy, I did not get the incubator. The bottom tray was missing and apparently not available from GQF. I would have had to make one or had someone else do it. The hatching tray with cover was there.

I called about another one but the guys wife had changed her mind about selling it.

I went this afternoon and picked up a wine cooler. I am going to try to build one out of it.
I think all I need to do is disconnect the compressor, add a heat source ( light or heat tape) and a thermostat to control it. Since the wine cooler did not have a fan, I will put a couple of small fans in it.
I have one more day of work to finish my breeder pens in the chicken coop for the silkies and maybe I can put my mind to work on figuring out how to build the incubator.

I am looking forward to Sat. I may take a few silkies to sell. I have to decide what to part with.

I don't adhere to that "lockdown" rule either! No patience here, can't stand to leave those little fluffies in there with the broken eggs shells and such. They go right into a nice, clean, warm brooder with food and water ..... and they usually eat and drink within 24 hours. But I'm a rebel, a rule breaker, so .......

and I also feel the need to check and make sure nobody is stuck or in need of my assistance to exit their shell. Yes, I do that too.

Ok so Mom asked me to see if anyone wants a few Dorky chicks at the show sat...she will bring some and is open to trades for silkie or polish(chicks or eggs)!! She knows there was someone else who wanted some but couldn't remember when we talked! PM me and I will set it up...she won't be on for a couple days...

I wanted some Dorking chicks but I won't be going to the show.

Very nice!

They have a farm area on the estate. The younger chickens, probably 1-4 months are out walking around in a large area and kids and adults can pick them up. There is lots of supervision there to make sure the chicks aren't injured. The older ones are in a nice run, but can still be seen quite easily. They also have sheep, goats and horses. There are lots of varieties of chickens. More than what I have pictured here.
They also have a winery that is open for tours now, too. That is on my list to do next time.

I have actually been to their winery. It is built in the old dairy and very nice. You really have to watch that taste testing! I love going to the Biltmore and its green house/garden but I didn't know it had a farm area. I knew there was a stable. Wouldn't it be nice to have a house that took up 4 acres just in itself? My luck I would have to clean it myself....
