Southern 101---Explanation of all things Southern

No offense taken. I have a very Catholic double name, so out here folks assume my mom was Catholic. 'Cept they spell it all as one word.

Speaking of double names I have always wanted to name my first son Dually Joseph so he would be Dually Joe, I think it would be awesome.

Southern folks aint the only ones that eat roadkill, I have many friends that make roadkill sausage and such, it aint half bad neither.

I say all of the above! I know how to write and speak properly, but all of these Southern "slang" words come out easily in casual conversation because I have always lived in Southern Alabama.

I hate automated phone services that require me to speak in the phone. They hardly ever understand me. I try to hard to speak the words as plainly as possible, but I usually have to give up and get a live person on the phone. Even then, I have to spell things for them sometimes. I have a very strong Southern accent, as you can guess.

I have that same problem! I never thought it might be my accent,..duh!!

I don't think it was meant as an insult. I have known a lot of people with double names. It's just part of life in the South. Isn't it funny also how even those of us without double names have them when our mamas are mad at us. When I hear my first and middle names come out of mom's mouth, I know I am in big trouble for something.

And I had to comment that we do not eat road kill in my part of the South. Yuck!!

At least those of us who are "normal" don't. It stays so hot here that things are usually already rotting by the time they are killed. That is just gross!!

I heard of some people during winter and fall months pickin it up and takin if its still warm. They usually donate it tough. Only parts of it is bruised..why waist?

obviously you haven't met my grandpa (Or Papaw as he's called).. There was a thread on here awhile back where we talked about roadkill and eating it as well.

The state and local police departments know to give me a call if there is an unwanted deer if killed by a car. I'll come, pick it up, and dispatch it humanely if needed. There is usually bruising but on a large animal like that, there is also a lot of meat

3 of them to fill the chest freezer, and dad has one, grandpa has one.......... and if we hear of a family going through hard times they usually get a freezer paper'd packed packs of meat.

It usually tastes better when you butcher it yourself, but then again, thats the country boy in me.

My dad only eats roadkill if he hit it, then only if it's groundhog or deer. Other than that, all roadkill gets brought home for his pit bull, especially squirrel
