Southern 101---Explanation of all things Southern

Heres how lunch time goes here in SC:

"Jeet yet?" (Did you eat yet?)

"Nawlp" (No)

"Yawnto" (Do you want to?)

"Awh-ight" (All right)

***************************

Sometimes we use the word "initiate" in association with meals, too.

"My wife and I went to a cook out yesterday. She ate one burger, initiate a nuddnun...."

***************************

I recall when I first moved here, there was one place everyone visited on the weekends. I had never heard of it before, but everyone seemed to go at least once, particularly on Sundays. Being new to the area, I was eager to find out how to get there myself.

You should have seen the look on my friends face when I asked, "Hey, man. How do I get to that place you go on the weekend?"
"Huh? What place?
"You know, the one you call "Mommanems Place"...

I forgot about the burgers!

When I first moved down here, I stopped at Steak N' Shake and ordered a burger. The first question out of her mouth was "How do you want that dressed?" I said, "Um, in a tuxedo?"

I married a southern boy but he was city. My dad once said to him " Could ya grab that paper poke outa the turtle hull and set it on the back porch?"

Poor Tommy had no clue what he wanted.

He wanted him to get a paper sack out of the car trunk.
