Southern 101---Explanation of all things Southern

It's kinda funny that my sister and I never thought we had a Southern accent until we went to California and Boston!! But my "southern" friends say we "talk" proper!! Go figure!! We are Army brats and have lived in alot of states, so I guess we "talk" a little bit of everything!!

My favorite was when we first moved to NC back in the 80s, a friend asked if our mom was "ill"! We said no she is feeling fine!! She wanted to know if mom was in a bad mood!!

One of the groups of people who settled Texas were German immigrants. We have lots of really cool cities in the hill country that were started as German settlements. So I am thinking Shiner Boch...

It is Shiner Bock. My fav beer. Yes, lots of towns are German settlements such as New Braunfels and Fredricksburg. Here is a small little history..

Known as the "Little brewery in Shiner," the Spoetzl Brewery is an American brewery located in Shiner, Texas. Wholly owned by the Gambrinus Company, the brewery is best known for producing Shiner Bock, a dark German/Czech-style beer that is now distributed in 41 states.

Has anyone read the entire lable on the back with the little ram? I find myself doing this on occasion...

That part of TX is cool too because of conjunto music, a german-mexican hybrid mostly played on the accordion. REALLY great stuff! I'm so proud to be a Texan.

well, texas here I come. Flying in to DFW at 9am on tuesday. God it'll be good to be around my family if only for a short while

Well I'm really mixed up...... I was born in Florida, moved to Delaware, then moved back to Florida and I'm married to a Filapino! I say "Wader".................instead of Water. I feel pretty silly when kids look up at me and say Huh??? LOL I am big on saying "I'll give ya a hollar later" or putting Mr. or Miss in front of everyone's name. My husbands customs were way different then mine. I don't eat anything that looks back at me, LOL. Monkey bread freaked me out the first time I was asked if I wanted some, hehe. I now eat more rice than I ever did before.... I take off my shoes when I enter someones home, and I find nothing sexier than hubby out in his cowboy hat, wife beater shirt.... mowing the lawn.

But that's the Southern in me....

Thats way better than having to shovel the whole driveway with about 4'of snow in -20 temps with blowing snow. I dislike the winters. I dont think I have ever been in a super humid area before.

That's what we are here. My 2 yr old Grandgirl sounds SO country-fried when she talks to Papaw (not Pappaw).

All of my grandmothers were "Granny." My daughter calls my mom and her husband "Maw Maw" and "Paw Paw." They chose those names, not me. That's normal around here.
