I do agree with you. If I did ever decide to breed Seramas, I'd be very selective with the breeding stock, perhaps even getting different birds for that purpose, because you are right about the space issue.
No, by BB Red boys are not dubbed yet. We were planning on doing that this month, but I didn't want them scabby for the show on the 16th. I think the rule is that they have to be dubbed by November of their first year. My little dudes hatched last November, so I should still have a while. These are my kids' 4H show birds, I'm not actually trying to be a breeder for them, but I made a point to try to get nice quality stock when I bought them, so they're not hatchery or anything. When I get a good idea of how they compare to the competition, I'll decide if I actually would want breed them for offspring, or just enjoy them as sweet little chickens. One of the cockerels seems to me, to be particularly nice looking. I have a few eggs incubating out of sheer curiosity, but I'm not currently saving anymore for that purpose.
Very cute little cockerel in the pic. So sorry you lost him! I think you might like my little Serama cockerel. I was working on his pose today, he's coming along nicely! I'm going to let one of my daughters show him in Ramona. I'm not sure if my pullet will behave on the table, but I'm planning on bringing her too. She prefers to sit on my shoulder!
