Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

The only thing worse than being trapped in the house is being trapped in the house with a former Highway Department supervisor. He's started giving orders about snow removal. I need to remind him that I am NOT one of his "men" and there is no rush to get out. He keeps telling me how the snow is going to freeze hard as a rock. "You can use a shovel now or a pick axe later." God help me. I'm starting to think of other ways to use that pick axe.

What a difference 12 hours makes. Yesterday it was all "honey this" and "honey that" because it was my birthday.

I know how you feel, Clara...

Heather, I saw this pic on instagram and was immediately jealous!!! I will have to see about doing a bread, I used to make this super easy bread when I was traveling in hostels, but I forget the **** recipe and man was it good. Not that I need to eat bread, mind you!

Here in Greenlawn, Long Island, we have at least 2 feet of snow so far and it's still snowing! It's a little scary to try and open any doors. Not sure how I will let my little 11 pound doggie out today. My hubby Steve snow blowed last night before we went to bed and it looks like NOTHING was done this morning.

I bought a heavy duty snowblower for our 100+ foot driveway right before the storm and guess what?????????????? It was $1500.00 buckaroos, I kid you not and he tried to snowplow a path for the hens behind the coop where there is all kinds of debris, bricks, sticks, rocks and broke the machine. It grabbed a brick and got stuck and dented the whole inside up. HOLY _ _ _ _! I really appreciate him trying but come on. I had asked him to snow blow a path to the coop but not behind it.

I think he fixed it by banging parts back into place but seriously, it sucks!!! Who has that kind of money to spend and then to see it wrecked on it's first go out, that's just too much!

Did you get it at Sears? They have an awesome return and replace policy. We got a much smaller snowblower from there just last winter. I wonder if we can return and replace it for something we need in Texas, like a riding lawn mower, lol.

PS I like the name change, smart move! New tee design is adorable too

I'm guessing we have somewhat in excess of 2 feet of snow here. A community near us reported 27". Laura left around 7 to go to Mike's so they would be closer to his fire station for calls and an hour later he got called in to work (Greenlawn Water District). So she's snowed in at his house and he's probably not even there!

I almost peed my pants this morning. I opened the back door to let Clara out and she bounded down the steps and disappeared! I never saw a dog move so fast back up the steps. I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath.

I slogged my way through the snow to the coop, but the door is frozen shut. I'm worried because the windows are steamy and I know that's not a good sign.

Bobby got the snowblower all ready, filled it with gas, etc. There's only one problem. It's in the shed...

Lol at the shed!!!

You are too funny Suzanne. I love this picture, you should email it to the news station.

Morning all, well I opened the front door and my dog peed on the porch. Everyone has to be careful with their little dogs in this snow. They can sink under and get lost and suffocate. It is not uncommon . Richard has seen it a number of times. My French bulldog thinks he can just plow through it.
Well I just got a call from the guy that usually plows me out and his plow is broken. At least I made a trail to the coop and was able to get that cleared out.
There are only 3 babies left. And they seem to be OK. Off to find someone to shovel me out.
Stay safe and warm everyone.

Bobby snowblew? snowblowed? a path to the coop and I went out and cleaned it and put in nice fresh shavings for the girls, opened the door and windows real wide and gave them some extra scratch. Only Rhonda ventured out onto the path, but I have a feeling once the snowblower is stowed, they will come out to get some exercise.

It occurred to me as I was shoveling the steps that now he's just pushing a machine and I'm lifting shovels of snow. Time to rethink this division of labor. Next time he can shovel and I'll make the coffee.

My 8 lb. affenpinscher looked at that snow when I finally got my storm door open...... and ran under my table.LOL But we eventually went out together and then she wouldn't walk in the deeper snow and I had to pick her up. Got out the pee pads.

5 of my chickens are having their first experience with the snow and they are not happy hens.

Lots of yelling and whining going on.

Suzanne if tom tells me again how to shovel the %^&^*(* snow I'm gonna level him. He has straight lines issues............

Nice art work Donna!

Heather....whatcha making today??? I'm making boxed brownies (cheetin) and then mussells/shrimp/pasta/crab-cakes for dinner. I'm glad we aren't getting regular snow storms lately cause that's when I gain weight.......all I do is cook.
The wind is really blowing out there but the sun is shining.

OMG Smkchick!

You had me and my Mom laughing so hard, I had to almost get her "Heart Pillow" To guard her heart surgery incision! Thanks for the laugh!

Although I miss the snow, I don't envy all the digging out you all have to do today! My hubby sent me a pix of the path he dug to the coop to assure me that my girls are doing fine. My Chihuahua also disappeared in the snow! Have three of those to plow out for as well as a white boxer who disappears in the snow.

You are all in my thoughts today!
