Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

So, rough, rough, rough weekend. My daughters Jr Prom was lovely, she looked so pretty, and truly like a "Junior". Most of the girls dressed like it was a senior prom, or a wedding-not at all like 16 year old girls. She had a great time and danced the night away. She decided not to go to an after-party, which I had allowed her to go to, since Saturday we had big plans to get up VERY early. She's growing up and making good decisions. I'm very proud. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to do it. Because I'm NOT entirely in the 21st century.

Saturday morning, we got up at 6am, and drove up to Pearl River for a race that we actually started organizing in 2006. I am proud to say-it is all now completely automated, and has become a staple in the race circuit. It's the John Bellew Memorial 5k. John Bellew was one of my husbands closest friends, and he died on Black Sunday in 2005, when he and L27, E46 got trapped in an apartment during a blizzard and had to jump out the window. A close friend of ours, Rick Arazosa, who was my husbands captain in L27, and also lives around the block from us had spoken to Danny and asked him to bring him a t-shirt. He was feeling under the weather, having been diagnosed with Cancer and Mesothelioma last week. So we went, we all ran, and had a fabulous time. When we got home, Danny called Ricks house to tell him he had his t-shirt and would like to stop over for a beer and to drop the shirt off. His daughter called back and told us Rick passed away that morning. Suddenly. His wife went to the store and came back and he was gone. They had an autopsy done, since the doctors opinion was that it was 9/11 related-Rick and Danny spent until 6/02 down at the trade center on the GPS unit.

Saturday night, we had tickets that we bought weeks ago, for Jim Norton at Caroline's in Manhattan, so we drove in. Needless to say-the show was funny, but we just didn't have the emotional ability to really enjoy ourselves. The whole trip in, Danny was on the phone arranging for the 343 engine to be at Ricks funeral, and calling firehouses for honor guards and to get men to the funeral.

Sunday, we had promised to take the kids to the FDNY/NYPD hockey game so we went to that-Danny had been making calls to all people in the FDNY that knew Rick, so everyone we saw was devastated. We hung out with Danny's old FH so that was a good time, and my kids got to have that "Family" feeling that FD families enjoy. Yesterday was rough, I had to deliver a basket of food to the Arazosa's house and spent some time crying with Joanie and the kids. Then the news didn't have any good news either, so today I'm going to the wake, tonight we have tickets for Bob Seger. I'm meeting up with a couple of good friends, also chicken girls, and hopefully I can cheer up!!

On a good note, Kairi is back to his old self, with a shaved butt, which he doesn't seem to mind...I'm considering shaving his whole body-just think of the NO SHEDDING I can accomplish...

Suzanne, congrats again on getting married!!!!!!!!!!!

Heather, I'm no expert in social media so really don't have too much to offer in terms of advice. I just keep trying in the hopes that something will work out.

Speaking of bad luck (but could have been much worse) 2 HUGE pit bulls or maybe even cane corsos were about to stroll down my driveway this morning. I FREAKED out and yelled at the woman to come get her friggen pit bulls off my and my neighbors property. This is the second time in a few days these dogs have gotten out. Something serious could happen here if they don't get better control of their dogs. I called animal control and they said they'd give a warning and now my neighbor probably hates me but tough. Don't get those large, sometimes aggressive dog breeds and let them stray anywhere off your property.

ACK!!!!!!!! My hens could have been goners.
Take a pic next time. I can tell you if they were Corsos-I used to show and breed them. :) I adore the molosser breeds but you are right to be fearful of ANY dog roaming the neighborhood.

Thank god I was oblivious to what was happening in Boston yesterday until my son called me to tell me that he and his girlfriend,Jen were safe..
she was called into work.what a terrible way to have to start your medical career. What a dark ans sad day in this country once again.

It's true. I was happily avoiding misery, watching "Weeds" on netflix, when I got a text from a friend of mine. I'd never qualify, but I always coveted running the Boston. How devastating for everyone. I'm glad your son is safe. What a world.

CheekyChick, YAY, Kairi is better! I am so relieved to hear that. You took excellent care of him through this, I know that it wasn't easy on you or your son.

May things go smoothly from here on out.

Smkchick-- I am so excited for you! This is coming up fast. May this be the start of only good things coming your way!

Mags-- Thank you for the kind words about shepherds, and the fellow in my avatar. He's the love of my life!

Astoundingly, Grimm gets along great with the free-ranging chickens. Whodathunkit?

JerseyHen, Oh my gosh, did I laugh!

Lots of little calls, and superhero capabilities even as teeny babies! How cute! I'm glad you've got them all where they need to be for now. I'm intrigued, baby Bobwhite quail! What do people do with quail, pets, eggs, hunting? I honestly am new and learning, so please pardon the question. It sounds like you've got your hands full with those fascinating babies!

Forget your hens, what about a person or a child? That is scary. I too am a huge dog lover but as you say, don't get an aggressive breed if you're not going to care for it properly. THat pisses me off more than anything. I know people who love pitties and rotties and they hate irresponsible owners since they are the ones that add to the bad rap that they have. Maybe you should contact a pit bull rescue group nearby to come and educate these people. I wouldn't hesitate to call the cops again.

Okay, so I survived today. One more "work" day and then we're off to Vermont on Wednesday. I had to compress all my tutoring/teaching into today and tomorrow. Tomorrow's schedule includes a mani/pedi, puppy visit, lunch with my cousin, laundry, supermarket, dog sitter meeting, brooder cleaning, bank run and three tutoring clients. Finishing up by 7:30 pm. Then packing. Whew. I will be so glad to get on the road on Wednesday, after the car wash and my friend dropping off my bouquet.

By Thursday evening, I'll be a married woman. Or a remarried woman. If I live that long...
YAY!!! Love you gal, and I hope you and Bobby have a long and happy life together. :)
