Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

The girls had a cold night last night. Went below freezing and we got a good hard frost. Water outside is freezing up but the coop water did not. Got to do the electrical connection to the coop today if we can.

Our terrier is not feeling well. Don't know what is wrong but he won't eat and he has been lethargic since yesterday. Called the vet and have an appt.a for 11:20. It's always something.

ThAnks guys, I will keep you posted.

I'm starting to think it is his teeth by the way he is acting and the unsually bad breath he has today. We should know in an hour or so.

Al, how's the pooch?

It was a very tough day today. Those poor kids are all over the place. I'm the fourth teacher that's been in their room since school started. When I told them I was going to be their new teacher, one little boy asked me if I was their permanent teacher. I told the class I was going to be their teacher all year, that I would be there every day to help them. But boy, are they testing boundaries! And since they've been having substitutes for the last 3 weeks, not a lot of substantive work has gotten done. The marking period ends in a week and I have to try to assess them in subjects they haven't even been taught, like science and social studies.

All day people stopped in to say hello, and a good 80% of them said it was weird not seeing Joan in her room. The building is grieving, the kids are grieving, I'm grieving. At the end of the day, I went to the wake, where I completely lost it.

I feel like a woman without a country. No longer at my old school, and not yet a part of my new one. Maybe I'm the one that's all over the place!

Did manage to put a low wattage red bulb in the coop for the chickies, though. It throws enough heat to keep them warm. They promptly went to that side of the coop, so I guess they needed it. Now instead of worrying that they'll freeze to death, I can worry that the coop will burn down.

Don't mind me. It's been a day and a half.

You'll be fine, everyone will be fine. It will just take some time. I think you're just the person to handle it.
When you think you're gonna lose it, we'll be there for you.
And if all else fails, Gladys will ALWAYS be there for all of you.

Suzanne, sounds like you had one of those days we used to give the new teach. Not fun from your perspective, though. Things should settle down soon enough. Sorry you will have to play catch up to get them through this marking period. A glass of wine might be in order. Monday will be a better day, with any luck. At least you have the weekend to recuperate.

Jack had to be put on antibiotics and had gotten blood drawn. We should have the results tommorrow. The infection may be from his teeth. We scheduled a cleaning for him next Wednesday. That'll be a killer of a bill, but he's worth it.

Good you got that bulb in today because it is going to be colder tonight. Up here we are dipping into the lower 20s and expecting up to six inches of snow, if the reports are accurate. Went from wet snow to six inches. I hope they're wrong.

Didn't get a chance to run the electric and wound up painting Theresa of the trim in the dining room. That finishes that room off now. The living room is next if I feel up to it next week.

I wound up with a screamer of a headache this afternoon and had it take an 800mg Ibuprofin. Worked well onthe headache, and the arthritis too, but it knocked me out. I finished painting just in time for my eyes to go nasty double and fell asleep on the couch.

AL!!! Painting with double vision and a headache? Don't make me come up there and smack you!

Sorry Jack's got troubles. I remember when I worked at the vet's office that the cleaning's were real big bills - it's the anesthesia. I hope it helps.

We went out to the diner and when we came home the chicks had moved away from the bulb and were roosting in with the big girls. So I shut the lamp off. I'll put it on again before bed to get the temperature up again.

The dog found the heat pack and had it in her doggie bed. I don't know if she took it because it's still warm or because it smells like chicken!

They're predicting a Nor'easter which is supposed to be the worst NY has ever seen. This summer, Bobby got us a generator and we had a hurricane. Tomorrow the snow blower's being delivered. hmmmm....

Thanks for all the support. I'm going to spend some time doing planning this weekend. I'll feel better with a clear direction. Oh yeah, and a paycheck!

Suzanne, we just got home from the diner. You following us? Haha.

Yeah, I know, painting with double vision and a headache. Real bright! I had to do something because I'm feeling better and getting bored. Wound up with low blood star and that probably caused me to feel like garbage. Forgot to eat lunch. Another brilliant move. Feeling fine now.

Jack is just lying on the couch with mommy. The Maltipoo (Bisquit) Is lying on her chest. The other two are roaming around. I'm staying on the computer till the eyes give out.
