Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I would have been out digging in the mud too, if I thought I could get away with it. Now we are blanketed again. This has been one odd winter. Our basement is trying to flood again. The sump burned out so we bought a new one. The other one was only a year or so old, we think the line froze and it burned out trying to "push" out the water. I hope it stays dry down there, that is where all the hatching and brooding will take place. I will put the brooder up on blocks and the incubator is on a table, so I suppose I can always wade to them if need be....

At a distance it looked like dried blood . I thought she was attacked .she is one crazy bird.

When are you getting your babies this year?
If its not one thing it's another with these houses.i hope everything works out.

Have you talked to Tina, Mags, Suzanne or Carolyn? I wonder why they left the thread.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

I love the crazy birds, they are so entertaining. Mine ship on April 9. I hope the weather warms up by then and I don't get chicksicles again. Did you want me to add anything for you? My creamlegbar eggs will ship as soon as the weather warms enough.

I have not been in touch with anyone, I am not sure why the thread has been so quiet. Perhaps now that we are in the home stretch for spring it will pick up some? I am looking forward to the spring festivities up here. http://www.newjerseystatefair.org/springfest/springfest.cfm I go to this one every year. They have a lot of displays and it is something to do in those last throes of winter...

My girls want to know if they can fly South next year.....
It's iceing. I hate it.
Hey Roberta how are you holding up with all this snow?
I'm hoping I don't have a cave in . The top of my run is sagging from the weight of all this. I tried removing it yesterday but didn't do a very good job.
My two new girls, Jewel and Pearl are slowly becoming part of the flock. At least I don't have to worry about that.
I NEED SPRING
Stay safe everyone.

We have over a foot plus what was already on the ground and now the ice is trying to start. The elevation here seems to be keeping it primarily snow for now. Sending DH out to shovel... 100 feet of gravel drive, and hundreds more of walks... Not my turn ;-) I did the last storm.

We've got ice on top of frozen snow. It's awful. My husband actually fell down the front stairs this morning! I've been salting everything, chopping up what I can and it's still treacherous! I need spring to hurry up! Lol! I'm sure the other girls are simply dealing with this frozen tundra or hibernating.
I just put 40 Coturnix in the incubator and my chicks should be shipped on the 12th.I won 6 sweet grass turkey eggs on eBay, so they'll be coming in a week or two also. Do you think I'll have enough birds? :)

OMG 40 cots? What are you going to do with all those stinky little buggers? I looove the idea of turkeys, but I have to admit I am a little intimidated by them.

What kind of chicks are you getting?

Well, the quail will be for eggs and eating. Since they mature so fast, there's a good turnover. I adore turkeys-they are like puppies if you raise them that way-the sweetgrass are nice and big, heritage and they've got beautiful markings. I can't wait for them to come!

As far as chicks go, I ordered 10 Gold Comets and 5 Black Australorps. Good layers with sweet personalities-the way my kids eat, I need some serious egg production!

I keep checking the incubator. I'm not sure why-they've got 12 days until lockdown and aren't going to be dancing and singing, at this point, anyways.

What plans do you have for spring?

Hi everyone, looking to get some chicks soon. Is there a hatchery nearby orange county, NY?

Joe

Hi Joe, where in Orange county? Lived in Newburgh for a while.dont know of any hatchies but did order from ideal last year.just wait til it gets warm so they don't freeze.
