Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Roberta,
I was reading your moving to the Carolina's. I am jealous. Enjoy! I agree it's so expensive here. You also mentioned at least the chickens would be legal. Aren't they already? ;) Amy

Looking for homes for two Swedish Flower Hen cockerels. Going to be beautiful adults. Both are black based Mille Fluer, one with more black, the other with more red. 12 weeks. I had a very heavy male hatch and can't keep them all. Picture of the roo is the cockerels father. PM me if interested. I'm in Dutchess County. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

It's Irene from Long Island. ladyehawke aka Harborview Hens.

I have been gone a long time but something happened to one of my girls yesterday and I wanted to share.

My light Brahma stated wheezing and coughing in the afternoon. She obviously had labored breathing. I went online here and the web for a solution. I did not want to use antibiotic if possible as I try to keep all the hens organic even though they are not laying at the moment.

I decided to use VetRx and gave the night dose. I checked her at 8 pm and 10:00 pm. She was resting on the bottom of the coop but she had stopped wheezing. I also rubbed some under her wings as recommended.

This morning all looks well so far. I am happy that I tried it first. hopefully, she will continue to remain improved

Just wanted to share this. Luckily, I had VetRx in my "Doc Brown" emergency kit. I bought this when I first started with chickens. I can't remember if Inheard of it from here or the Chicken Chick's blog. Either way, it is available at most animal feed stores and worth having on hand.

Regards to all!

Irene

Quick Question!

Has anyone used Neutrena Feather Fixer? I've been reading some good things about it and was thinking I'd giving it a try. My girls are going through a tougher molt this year.

I bought one bag last year because I had a coupon, then realized I didn't save much $ because it is only a 40 lb bag. The 1bag wasn't enough time to get a good review of it.

Morning all, Long time......

Christina, how have you been feeling ? How is that beautiful girl of yours? We have to get together for lunch .
Hippy hope all is well with the construction.
Roberta, congrats on your move ...I wish it was me.
Cheeky, do you still have the turkeys? Sorry to say it doesn't get any easier with boys; but I wouldn't have changed it for the world.
Toxic , did they say it was because of your chickens and if so why?
Welcome Joe and all the other newbies......
If I missed anyone I'm sorry.

Been busy all summer and fall with the garden, chickens, quilting ,knitting and building a new home for my sulcata. He is just too large for me to carry in and out of the basement.
I took back my yard this summer. The girls only have half of it now.

Went to the Islip town meeting yesterday concerning the ban on roosters. A number of people were there both for and against it. They decided to postpone their decision until they investigate further. I was very surprised and pleased for once to live in Islip.they are going to form a committee and want people to join that are knowledgeable about chickens. If anyone lives in the town of Islip they should call the town hall. Now is our chance....
One young man talked against the ban and at the end said; " I couldn't live with myself if I didn't say, My cock is none of your business." of course I applauded... He ended up getting 4 citations for what I don't know.

Be well everyone....
