Aw, sorry to hear she didn't make it. It's good you are using the grow gel. The dehydration is worse than no food during the trip. They should all do well from here on out.

Today we went to the local Agway to get a Happy Hens treat ball to keep the girls from getting bored. They had a deal if you buy a bag of layer feed you get one treat ball, free. Then they had a free heavy duty egg carton free with a bag of Nutrena layer crumbles. They gave us the two things free with the purchase of a 7lb bag of the Nutrena. They said they had tons of treat balls and wanted to lower the inventory. For $6.99, we did good.

Al, I've been feeding Agway food lately. Haven't looked at the protein source, It's just when I buy 300 lbs at a time, lately I just worry about the cost.

Toxic, call the hatchery and let them know. The best they will do is probably just refund you $3.00
but let them know you aren't happy.

So... My relatives who didn't want me getting chickens are now claiming the one they like best as "their chicken". My niece loves the Wyandotte, my mom the EE, I love them ALL

You know how men say their in the dog house. Well problem solved: send them to the "Chicken House" and move the girls in with you. For me it would be a lot less to clean up . Hope every ones chickens are doing well. Still looking for a home for my roosters; starting to panic. Before the first one finishes crowing the guy across the street will call the town on me.

I am nervous to bring this up, but.... have you considered either making them capons or taking them to a butcher now? I know, I know, they're heritage fancy breeds but...

Sorry your Partridge didn't make it. But I'm so glad the rest of your girls are okay and you are enjoying them.

Which brings me to my news: I was going to change my mind about the order of chicks but Toxic Chicken's post made me change my mind back. I WILL be ordering the chicks as we discussed. For all those on board, I'll let you know your total.

And now the reason I thought of cancelling: Within 20 minutes of arriving for my first day back after surgery, I was told (by a substitute teacher, no less) that the powers that be have held budget meetings and they are planning on cutting another 5 elementary teachers as well as all the long-term leaves. Which means I will be out of a job again in June. This time, I have little hope of surviving the cuts.

Any ideas for a new profession? Maybe I can get a job teaching chicken math?
