Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I'm so bummed. 2 chicks dead, only 2 eating and drinking. The other 2 are just sitting there with feathers all poofed. I'm using pine shavings, medicated chick starter, electrolytes in the water(bottled), temp is 92-93 degrees. I don't understand :(

Ooh. 2 had pasted bums. Thanks for the poop question made me check. Cleaned them up and the one imeadiatley made a big poop.

Amazing how one little hole can have such an effect on them!

Thanks peeps.
I talked to my pet chicken a few times already too.
They said to give the week ones some hard boiled egg
I'm gonna try that now. They are gonna resend the ones that died
plus a few extra I'm gonna buy to meet minimum shipping
requirements. I'm having them wait till late April early may to
send them cause I don't want a repeat of chicks stuck in a snow storm
out west someplace. And I want these out of the brooder and in the coop
before I start new chicks.

Caponization is to remove the testes of a rooster. It will not make them stop crowing. With chickens being such stressful birds many don't survive. My husband is a vet and doesn't do this surgery. Won't cut their vocal cords either .

Sorry Suzanne about your job. My son just started teaching part time at a charter school in Boston. For the hours he is putting in he is barely making minimum wage.very sad.

Sorry Suzanne, that stinks about your job! It's getting harder and harder it seems to earn a living around here. Hence, my tee shirt business idea. Which probably won't go anywhere but I'llkep trying!

Not sure if you got my reply a few days ago but I am down for 3 buffs. I am in greenlawn and can pick them up and pay then or beforehand, let me know.

My friend who is a vet tried caponing roosters and it isn't easy. I think they have to be very young to do it right. And if it's done wrong, they'll crow anyway.
