Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Karen: Great picture. So cute!! I'm so glad to finally see the babies.

Ordered another 3 chickies - a Buff Orpington, a Speckled Sussex and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Can't wait for April!

Hi All - I am new to BYC and just scratching around. I stopped in at the Southern NY Thread because I am in NYC - Ozone Park, Queens. Is anyone else within the city limits? We have 4 cochin bantam hens that are a year old this week. (You can see a pic of 3 of them on the swing with my daughter here:http://artmamasays.blogspot.com/2012/03/chicken-whisper.html) It has been an adventure, but I am so glad that we decided to get them. I'd love to hear how others are doing raising city chicks, and I will gladly field any questions others might have for me.

Welcome to the thread! Raising chickens in Queens must be a challenge. I'm out on Long Island and find having close neighbors is the hardest part of the whole endeavor.

I love the picture of your daughter with your hens. I currently have 6 hens and they've become a real part of our family. Right now, 5 of the 6 are laying. Can't give the eggs away fast enough!

I think you'll enjoy this thread. We have a lot of laughs and share a lot of support.

Welcome to the thread, mama.
Yes, we have a few locals here, and growing.
I think there are way more than we think, we are staying undercover in case any of us are over the limit

Welcome, welcome!! :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

My neighbors have been pretty cool about it. I think it helps that we live insanely close to an elevated train. If you can put up with that noise... My upstairs neighbor has a deck that overlooks our yard and she is the funniest. She calls them 'pedigree chickens', likes to feed them by tossing bread and crackers and drags all of her friends outside to see them.
