Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Ok, it's official: Caleb = Coolest. Kid. Ever. (except everyone else's sons & daughters on the thread). Love that tune! Will you be on my team in September? Donna, you have to do it with us, it's really not that hard. I could show you the pictures of the people I talked into doing it last year. If you can't get over an obstacle you can just do burpees instead. By the end I was doing quite a few burpees, lol. Maggie, get your son and his friends to sign up too, and Suzanne I bet your daughter would like it. We can all wear some sort of Egg Powered tee-shirts. Or you could go the rude route, and do something like, "How loud is your COCK?" with a pic of Fred on it. ;-) Is that bad? I'm sorry! I'm about to turn 40, I'm not supposed to still have my mind in the gutter, ha ha.

The race is in Valhalla, NY, and here's the link again:

Again, I signed up for a 9:30 start time because I am in no way going to get an award, just happy to complete the thing. They have chip timers which is great, you don't have a huge bottleneck going through.

Heather, one of my sons does the Spartan race!
He went to a challenge out in PA yesterday as well with some of his cross fit training group and said it was tougher than the Spartan race. He came in #15 out of 800 . He is a determined German beast.LOLOL A couple of weeks back he did the High Rock here in Staten Island.. Loves these challenges.
In my dreams I can do Spartan races. Wish they'd had them 15 yrs ago, maybe I could have, ha ha.

15 out of 800 is awesome! He should sign up for the 8:00am start time, he could win this race.

Good morning all; Glad everyone got home safe. It was great meeting everyone. Caleb your pretty amazing Don't worry about "weird" My son never did. Our 2 car pooling feathered friends got home safe also. We told Loretta's husband that she won her Wyandotte in the Chinese auction.I really don't think he believes us.
Glad you mentioned the Chinese auction! I will stick with that story if I see Loretta's husband when I go to her the veggie stand. Had a good time. Thanks for the ride Carol

You wouldn't know it by looking at me, but I did an ironman back in 2007! Almost qualified for the world championship ironman in Kona! Missed it by 1 minute, 18 seconds. Now, my knees are shot and I am completely overweight and out of shape. UGH!

Had a great time at the show, thanks Heather for the mint and great advice about the sassafras tea. I know we have it my yard because I've talked about trying to do that for years! I have two fairly large sassafras saplings growing up now that we are taking down, do you think those roots could work?

I've been day dreaming about a Buff Cochin pullet I saw at the show. I'm a sucker for any buff colored bird, I find it so soothing and warm to look at. I even called the guy on the way out to see if he'd sell her, she was gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! He said someone offered him $100.00 bucks earlier and he said no. Oh well, so much for that! Been reading up on them and I think their feathered feet may take quite a bit of work to keep clean and nice so maybe it's for the best anyway.

Very nice meeting and seeing you all yesterday!

I'll be working on your chicken nerd tee, so be on the lookout for designs!
Cool, I am so excited for my nerd tee! I already have one that says, Geek Mom, but that's not entirely true, i'm not that obsessed with Star Trek. Just chickens. ;)

Those Buff Orpingtons at the show were HUGE! They looked like big comfy sofa cushions. I agree it's a nice color, plus I'm guessing it gives them some safety with camouflage.

I would wait until after we get all that rain thats due next week before pulling anything out. Wet soil is much easier to work with when uprooting stuff. If you can't wait try digging a little ditch around it and flooding it with the hose, then letting it soak for awhile. Any roots will work, it's just easier to uproot the smaller ones. Also if the tree you're cutting down is a decent enough size they make great fence posts since they don't rot, sort of like cedar - all that aromatic oil in the bark. And on that note, don't put the shavings in with the hens. I should post a pic of the fence I put around my berry bushes it came out very pretty actually and it's just sassafras limbs and chicken netting.

Oh wait, found one with the ladies walking in front of it:

Well, the babies made it through the night. I went out before I went to bed and they were all piled in a corner behind a feed bag. So I showed them (shoved them) into the "isolation chamber" and they went back to sleep. They're all happily peeping away now.

There is lots of complaining from the big girls, though. Agatha especially. She's the loudest of my hens and she's going on a lot this morning. I threw in a bunch of mealworms, but she's still very cranky. Soup, anyone?

Mine whine when they see me, it's because they want out to run around. I'm keeping them locked up for most of the day though because of that fox, plus the hawk. I am putting my babies out overnight when the rain that's due next week passes over. For now I just put them out in the daytime. So glad yours are adjusting well!

I'm with you about being confused. I'm past that certain age, you know. Let me see if I've got this straight:

smkchick - Suzanne (that one was easy)
stoopid - Roberta
howlinggood - Donna
dirtydozen - Vera
imprfctme - Heather
lichick - Jeanett
glasshen - Christine
queenchick - Carol
highpointfarm - Caleb (that one was easy too)

Now I'm completely lost. Somebody help me!

Had a GREAT time at the show yesterday & didn't eat the profits. Roberta is a dynamite packer & baker! Unfortunately, I am now more confused as to who everybody is than I was before! ALMOST bought the frizzle serama frizzle in the sale cage. Did good in show with 2 splash Silkies. Congrats to everyone who entered (alot of work regardless of how you do). Didn't buy any birds (felt weird) but did go home with 12 potentials from Stephanie (eggs)! Will put under my broodie Cochin I got from Matt at the Congress. Other Cochin is already incubating 6 silkie eggs. Looking forward to October show!

Is there a way to tag people in pictures on the forum?

Smart alek - I meant for everyone to tag themselves - like in Facebook? ;-) And Suzanne is right, you're a good sport for putting up with all these additional broody moms. Just what you wanted, more people telling you what to do!

I do not play any instruments, I think I have enough ways of embarrassing my children as it is.
